Planting bulbs in crates has become one of my favourite ways to grow 🌷

They’re easy to move around, keep organised, and tuck into small spaces. Plus once the bulbs are finished flowering the whole crate can be moved aside while the foliage dies down naturally.

Such a handy option if you’re short on space or just want a simpler, more manageable way to grow cut flowers.

I line the crates with cardboard first, then add a layer of leaves at the bottom to help hold moisture and slowly break down over time. After that it’s compost, bulbs, then another layer of compost on top.

Last year I used potting mix but it dried out so quickly and I felt like I was constantly watering. The bulbs never seemed quite as happy as I wanted them to be. This year I’m trying straight compost instead, so I’m excited to see how much of a difference it makes 🤞🏼

Now we wait for spring magic ✨

If your cut flower garden feels chaotic… this is why 🌸

Most people start with seeds. But the real trick? Start with your bouquets. Think in ingredients: focals, fillers, spikes, foliage.

Then match them to the right season and how they grow.

Get that right, and everything clicks into place.

Save this so you can plan your garden the simple way 🤍

And if you want, I can share exactly what I plant each month.

And that’s a wrap on the 2025/2026 flower season ✨

Feeling so grateful as I look back on this growing season. There were a lot of firsts this year - my first wedding, my first market, my first time selling to florists, and even seeing my flowers stocked in a cafe. All the things that felt a bit scary and a bit unknown at the start are now part of the story, and I’m so glad I said yes to them.

To everyone who bought flowers, shared my work, ordered bouquets, or simply followed along - thank you. Truly. This little business only exists because of your support.

I’ve learnt a lot (as I do every season), made mistakes, figured things out as I went, and grown in ways I didn’t expect - both in the garden and beyond.

Now it’s time for a slower rhythm, a bit of rest, and quietly planning what’s next.

Spring, I’m ready for you 🌱

Second video in my how to grow cut flowers series and this is how I build a no dig bed from scratch.

I don’t dig it over. I don’t flip the soil. I just start building it up in layers.

I start by laying down cardboard, then I go in with compost, organic matter, and whatever amendments the soil needs.

If the bed is deeper you can throw in some sticks and branches underneath too to start building structure as it all breaks down over time.

Then it’s basically just layer, build, repeat.

You’re feeding the soil from the top and letting all the biology underneath do the work.

It’s not fancy, it’s just how I get the soil doing what I want without destroying it every season.

Next up: planning what to plant. Stay tuned 🌱

I get sooo many messages about growing cut flowers, so I figured I’d finally put together a little series on it.

This is the first one and fair warning, she’s a bit of a long one lol.

I’m breaking down the 3 main things I think actually matter when you’re planning a cut flower garden:

☀️ Light - you want a solid 6–8 hours of direct sun for strong stems and decent blooms
🌱 Soil - not just “good soil” but structure, nutrients, and biology (think compost, manure and slow release goodness)
🪴 Space - small, well prepped beds will always outperform a big chaotic patch (I didn’t cover this in the video but consider access, water and how you will move around it)

You’re not just planting flowers, you’re setting up a whole system that supports them properly.

Next up: how I actually build my beds (no dig, simple, repeatable).

okay I had to jump on this because it’s literally me 😂

i’m locked in most of the time - 3 kids, work, the garden… life is full and non stop
but then something switches

give me a festie and suddenly i glitch and I’m out

honestly it’s the best reset
a good time, dancing, live music, just letting go for a bit and forgetting the chaos

then I’m straight back into it (after a week or so of recovery 😂) - same routine, same life, just a little lighter

work hard, dip out when you need it
nothing beats it ✨

It’s time to flip your beds for hardy annuals.

This is how I reset mine without digging:
1. Chop everything at the base (could also use a hedge trimmer)
2. Add amendments (fertiliser/blood & bone/manure etc)
3. Compost straight on top
4. Plant the next crop
5. Finish with mulch

No ripping everything out. No turning the soil. Just layer it up and keep going.

Why I stick to no dig:
- Keeps the soil structure in place so roots and water can move through it properly
- Protects all the good life in the soil (microbes, fungi, worms)
- Old roots break down and feed the soil
- Fungal networks stay intact and help plants access nutrients
- Less disturbance = fewer weeds popping up
- Builds better soil over time and holds moisture better

Let the biology do the work 🌿🌱🌸

This is your sign to just start it.

Grow something. Plant something. Get your hands dirty.

A lot of what I’ve grown hasn’t been perfectly planned or perfectly timed - it’s usually a bit chaotic and I’m just figuring it out as I go.

If you’ve been waiting for everything to line up… it probably won’t. Just start anyway. 🦋🧚

Flowers are at the stand today 🧚✨

I know I keep saying these will be the last bunches… but the garden’s still hanging in there and somehow still giving.

Getting these together was a real family effort while I’m recovering - I’m so grateful for all the help while I can’t do as much.

If you grab a bunch at the moment, it helps more than you know. Everything’s going straight back into seeds and bulbs for spring.

Thanks so much for supporting us 🤍
