Under an Orchard Sky🍒

Opening night tonight at the 2026 Taranaki National Art Awards in Ōpunakē!

Delighted to have Under an Orchard Sky on exhibition alongside the work of artists from across Aotearoa.

Inspired by the colours and shapes of Canterbury's orchard landscapes, this piece brings together soft peach tones, muted greens and expressive layers, sitting somewhere between a remembered place and an abstracted landscape.

What the Land Gathers

Layers of colour, marks and fragments come together in this piece — part landscape, part memory, with forms that feel gathered rather than mapped.

I love the contrast between the softer pinks and greens and those deeper inky blues, with the loose white linework sitting over the top.

I love the contrast in this one between the deep blues and teals, the softer blush tones and those loose white line details moving through the landscape.

A little behind-the-scenes trip to Studio Q today 🤍

I popped out to personally collect my new Land, Light & Layers six-card sets and belly bands and, while I was there, Liesl kindly took me through the Studio Q factory.

It was so interesting seeing the different presses, papers, card stocks and production processes up close, and talking through some of the other possibilities they offer — from tea towels and tote bags to different print finishes and materials.

There’s something really valuable about seeing where your work is made, handling the materials and being able to talk directly with the people producing it.

Even better when it means building connections with other New Zealand small businesses and keeping production here in NZ.

Very happy to finally have these beauties in hand and now be able to make up my new card set product🤍

The Tasman National Art Awards 2026 are officially open! ✨

Delighted to have my painting Harbour of Light included in this year’s exhibition at Mapua Hall.

A huge thank you to the organisers for bringing together another wonderful exhibition, and congratulations to Supreme Award winner Rosanne Croucher Art for her work Awash, along with all this year’s award recipients. 👏

If you’re around Mapua, pop in for a look — the exhibition runs 27 September–10 October, daily 9.30am–4.30pm.

Land, Light & Layers — 2027 Art Calendar. 🤍

Twelve paintings inspired by the shifting hills, harbour light, orchards and familiar landscapes of Banks Peninsula and Canterbury.

This collection reflects the looser, more intuitive direction my painting has been moving in — where recognisable places sit alongside abstraction, layered colour and expressive mark-making.

I wanted the calendar to feel like more than something practical for the wall — more like a small collection of art to live with throughout the year.

Printed here in New Zealand, Land, Light & Layers 2027 is currently in production and will be available soon.

From canvas to wearable art.

A little behind-the-scenes update on something I’ve been quietly developing.

The CAD design for my first Cath Grant Creative wearable-art earrings has now been approved, and the first physical samples are officially underway.

Three original paintings — Under an Orchard Sky, What the Hills Keep and Lines of Belonging — are being transformed into a small collection of contemporary statement earrings, each with different left and right artwork crops.

There are still samples to see, test and refine before anything is ready to launch, but I’m genuinely excited to see these move from screen to something I can finally hold and wear. 💛

Land, Light & Layers.

This body of work has been quietly taking shape over the past year — inspired by the shifting hills, harbour light, orchards and familiar landscapes of Banks Peninsula and Canterbury.

I’m now bringing these paintings together in a few new ways for Cath Grant Creative.

My 2027 Land, Light & Layers Calendar is currently in production, alongside a new six-pack art card collection, with three of the paintings also being developed into a small collection of wearable-art earrings.

I’ve loved thinking about how the work can live beyond the original canvas — something to hang, send, gift, wear and keep.

A few lovely things are starting to take shape for later this year. 🤍
