We are a generational family business team who are passionate about the sustainability of Moroccan hand crafted products - Ayoub Essadi, Carol Hoben, and Nourdine Essadi. We have 3 bases in Morocco - Marrakech,Bejaad (aka Boujaad, in the Mid Atlas region), and Imlil in the High Atlas Mountains, 60km south of Marrakech, where we have a 2 stores full of beautiful Berber rugs and textiles and a collection of other beautiful handcrafted things such as leather poufs, antique jewellery, ceramics and Thuya wood items.
We are INTERNATIONAL WHOLESALE suppliers to high end interior designers, interior design stores, and home wares stores from New Zealand and Australia to Scandinavia, Europe, UK, USA, Canada and China. We have a small warehouse in Raglan, New Zealand, which services clientele and online customers in Australasia.
Every purchase from Nomad House helps to ensure the survival of awe- inspiring traditional crafts and the financial security of the gifted artisans. For these craftspeople, our store serves as a secure marketplace to nurture and preserve artistic heritage while nurturing its progress.
Carol is our wholesale, retail and online sales administrator, creative designer, website and social media manager and blogger.
Ayoub is our business administrator, Imlil shop manager, and leather operations manager.
Nourdine is our experienced, professional rug buyer and communicator with a large network of artisan suppliers.
Together we are a formidable team.
Nourdine sources both new and vintage Berber rugs/carpets from mountain village markets, auctions and rug makers. Unlike city dwelling merchants who artificially "age" their rugs with chemicals and lay them out on the rooftops exposed to the elements, our vintage rugs are authentic! Dating Moroccan rugs is a bit like putting a date on the second coming of Christ so we don't do that either. Our newly made rugs are sold as new rugs, not vintage. Kilim, Handira and Rug cushions and pillows are included in our inventory, of which we have many.Hand woven textiles - Pom Pom Blankets made on ancient wooden looms from cotton or pure wool; vintage hand woven Boujaad Blankets, as they become available, and Handira (Moroccan Wedding Blankets) are also our specialties. We have partnerships with skilled weavers in Marrakech and elsewhere.
Our leather products are made from premium grade leather without the inherent smell of most other Moroccan leather products. They are the best A-grade quality! We guarantee our products to be of the highest quality, as is befitting our clientele. We are very fortunate to have partnered with the largest and and most reputable leather workshop in Marrakech. Not only do we have poufs and ottomans, of various shapes and sizes, but also beautiful leather bags - Travel Bags; Satchels, Back Packs, Hand Bags, Shoulder Bags, Cross-Body Bags, Clutches, Purses and Wallets...all beautifully handmade with attention to detail and finishing touches.We offer real Value for money invested in our product lines. Quality, and paying a living wage to our artisans, and paying fair trade prices to our rug sources are our priorities over large profits. We live a simple life and believe in win-win outcomes for all. In a world driven by $$$ values we are a business with a conscience and heart. We are absolutely ethical and abide by fair trade principles. We do not exploit those who are already poor and struggling to survive by screwing them down to the lowest possible price in order to make large gains for ourselves.Our artisans are our friends and family. A percentage of the profits from our sales is donated to charitable organisations who work with under-priviledged children.
