Spring is almost upon us and I’ve been waiting patiently to show off this beautiful, fresh Anna French fabric for its arrival!

Willow Tree was reimagined from a Japanese chinoiserie painting from the 1920's. I think it’s incredibly beautiful and timeless, delicate, romantic and restful… and I love the little ducks!

Watch this space to see the finished cushion with my final choice of backing fabric and trim.

I have a gorgeous selection of handcrafted ceramic moths in the shop, ready to flutter out the door!

These lovely critters are crafted by the talented Kirsty Gardiner, who works her magic in her rural studio just outside of Masterton. As well as moths I also house ladybirds and beetles among my colourful cushions 🦋🐞🪲

A perfect gift for someone special, or fill a little space on a wall at your place - you can find these beautiful bugs waiting for you at The Cushion Couturier, 69 Rutland Street, Ōtautahi Christchurch.

These gorgeous Persian-inspired velvets have been a hit with my lovely customers and it’s really no surprise why! The velvet has a beautifully silky, light-catching surface that is wonderfully hard-wearing.

I think this collection is set to be an enduring favourite with three patterns in co-ordinating colour-ways available, their rich palettes perfect for bringing depth and warmth to a space.

⚜Persia: inspired by the ancient artistry of traditional Persian rugs, with complex intricate patterning in rich combinations of colour. From jewel toned combos to time-honoured reds to earthy greens and browns. There's five colour palettes to choose from in this design.

⚜Tabriz: a more graphic geometric named after a historic city in north western Iran - Tabriz was a critical economic crossroad on the ancient Silk Road! There's four great colour combos in this design.

⚜Shiraz: small oval medallions in a grid layout, gives great visual texture and is an excellent pattern to combine with the other designs. Look closely and you get a sense of a woven textile in this cleverly printed coordinate, available in three colour ways.

Pop in and explore the full range in the shop, I have samples of these stunning velvets ready to browse among many more beautiful textiles here at The Cushion Couturier ❤️

You can check these out online at beckylee.co.nz - search Persia.

While we're on the topic of vintage gems…
I sourced this fabulous fabric from someone who had purchased meterage in the 1970’s with the intention of making pinafores for her kids, but never got around to it... you know the drill!

I love the naivety of the embroidered floral pattern, it’s almost like a doodle; primary coloured threads, with a bright dark mint, all stitched into a sturdy denim basecloth.

I remember that this is one of the first two cushions that sold on my website when it launched four years ago! ❤️

Like all my vintage cushions, there’s only ever a small batch made as once the fabric’s gone, it’s gone. If you love this 70’s embroidered denim you can check it out on my website - go to Shop / Specialty Cushions and you'll see the last two that are left.

At the start of winter I became a proud supplier of the beautiful Windermere Mohair Throws! ✨

These high quality throws are woven in NZ from high quality, incredibly soft and light NZ mohair—an amazing fibre from the Angora goat. Inherently resistant to stretching or sagging, mohair rarely pills and is exceptionally strong - these are lifetime pieces.

From a design angle, throws are an awesome way to build up a colour story in your space, or to simply complement your favourite Cushion Couturier cushion!

There's a colour swatch in the shop of more than 30 gorgeous colours that are available, so you can choose the perfect hue for you in one of two sizes, the generous knee blanket or a full size throw.

They also make a special gift, and if you're not sure on what colour to choose for someone - no problem! I can pop a gift exchange card in the parcel for you - and of course wrap it beautifully too. 🎁

One of my favorite fabric categories to work with is vintage!

I love learning about the stories behind these gems and imagining the lives they’ve lived. So often these gorgeous textiles are attached to a certain time, place or person, making them particularly special. I've found fabrics that are a hundred years old, carefully stored, in amazing condition and perfectly robust for using on cushions in a busy household.

I often select vintage fabrics for the store; commonly barkcloth, linen, and cotton like this cool 1970's geometric tile pictured. There's so much personality in vintage textiles, they add immediate character and soul to a room and often evoke memories - every day I have customers come into the store that will point out fabrics that do just that for them.

I'm just loving the swing back towards collected interiors, where things don't have to match and each piece is carefully chosen, making up the story of the people that live there.

Who will add this design to their story I wonder?
