The tui’s liquid song always stops me in my tracks...

There’s something magical about painting New Zealand’s native birds. The tui with its iridescent feathers and that unmistakable melodic call - it’s a challenge I keep coming back to.

“Tui Song” captures one of these beautiful songbirds mid-call, trying to hold that moment when their liquid notes fill the Canterbury air. I’m fascinated by how light catches their dark feathers and reveals those hidden blues and greens.

Available as a signed giclée print - perfect for celebrating our native wildlife. Link in bio.

Spring wandered through the botanical gardens...

The Christchurch Botanical Gardens, where light filters through the
Japanese maples and hydrangeas bloom in gentle pastels. I'm fascinated
by how the dappled light changes the colors throughout the day - keeps
me humble trying to capture it all!

These two pieces celebrate the garden's quiet corners where streams
whisper through the meadows and cultivated beauty meets wild growth.
There's something so peaceful about these hidden spaces in the heart
of our city.

The river I walk past. The light I had to stop for.

Kaiapoi has a way of doing things quietly and then catching you off guard. The river in the early morning, the flat Canterbury light coming across the water; I painted this because I walk this way often and it deserved to be looked at properly. Original available. Also a reminder that landscapes do not have to be dramatic to be worth pausing for.
