Kia ora whānau,
Today we bring you some unfortunate news. Pae Pukapuka will be closing temporarily.
We have not made this decision lightly, there have been a few things that have impacted it and our ability to keep Pae Pukapuka running.
For a bit of backstory, in July 2025 Jess came off her bike and broke her wrist in three places. The break has healed however, there have been ongoing complications. In December 2025 it was discovered that one of her tendons has torn, another has been displaced, and various other issues. Jess is behind all of the products sold on Pae Pukapuka and is currently unable to make them.
On top of this, Pippin, one of our little helpers cut her leg open at the end of 2025. She has had three surgeries to repair the injury, including one yesterday to place sutures in her ankle joint. Unfortunately these surgeries have been expensive.
With the combination of physical and financial burdens Jess has had to make the unfortunate decision to close Pae Pukapuka temporarily. We don’t have a timeline at this point but we will keep you posted.
For all indie authors interested in having their books with us please continue to reach out, we will respond to you eventually (it may just be a bit slower than usual).
This isn’t how we wanted to start 2026 but we know it will make us stronger as a business and family in the long run.
