The skinny vases are my ultimate efficiency piece.
When I make nerikomi items, I roll out a giant slab of striped pattern. After I cut out mugs (my most popular item), there’s a small section left at the end of the slab, just the right size for a skinny vase.
Because striped slabs take so much time and care to create, these little vases are the perfect way to use every bit of the pattern before it’s dried out and recycled into the same colour again.
I hope you love them not just because they’re cute, but because they help make my process as effective as possible.

The most common question I get asked is, “So I broke my pot… can I, you, or the universe fix it?”
The answer is kind of no, kind of yes.

You have options. You can fix it with epoxy, but it won’t be functional again. You can take up the complex and beautiful art of kintsugi, repairing with gold (if you have time). Or you can repurpose it, like this beautiful dark green mixed up mug has been.

My motto? Turn the broken piece into another beautiful object, and use the opportunity to buy a new handmade mug from your favourite maker.

How do you repurpose your broken pieces of art? I can never make mine into a plant pot because I kill all the plants.

Fun fact: Rainbow is the most popular colour I make.

I easily make at least twice as many Rainbow pieces as any other colour in the range.

I mean... you can see why. It's pure, vibrant happiness.

Although, if I'm honest, my favourite colour changes every week. Right now? It's definitely Rainbow.

The studio has a myriad of sounds
Most common is tapping and dropping large lumps of clay onto benches to get it to stick together

The pottery gets its sponge bath.
The work gets fired.
I leave the studio and don't dress like a gremlin trying to stay warm.

But the most interesting glow up of all has been the work over the last 10 years of practice.

My nerikomi process came about less from what I love about ceramics and more from what I don't love about the process.

The best thing about this though is that after over 10 years of development (how long I have been doing pottery) I have arrived at a process that I absolutely love.

Colour. Repetition. Simple glazing. No painting. Lots of manual labour (clay is heavy!). And plenty of sweat along the way.

My favourite colour today is the Rainbow Mixed Up

I simply love that every single piece is completely different, with its own unique balance of colours from the rainbow.

When you build up a full set, it creates something truly epic. A collection where every piece has its own personality, giving you a plate (or piece) to match whatever vibe you’re feeling that day.

Figuring out how I work and embracing it has been a big theme of this year.

I often joke that I’m “boring”, but I don’t mean that as an insult. For me, it’s about embracing the consistency, routines and rhythms that keep me grounded in my practice.

There is something really comforting about returning to the same processes, the same materials and the things that I know work for me.
