It's truly been long-awaited, but I've finally had the chance on this beautiful autumn day to get outside amongst the frosted flowers. The cut flower gardens were crying out for a touch of TLC, and our dahlias look ready for lifting, thanks to Andrew's efforts today - and the wonderful news is that the tubers are looking really good, despite last season's blooms not quite living up to expectations. What a fantastic boost for our charity dahlia tuber sale in October! I'm very grateful to our friend Bev, who's worked hard to resurrect the Fergusson windmill from its 15-year slumber under the hedge, to its new home beside the flower hut - I'm absolutely thrilled it's visible from my kitchen window. The kids have been busy harvesting seeds and brainstorming ways to spread the joy, with Grandma pitching in and making a real difference, as always where she can.
Our latest batch of honey has also arrived and we are loving it on our crumpets. Harper made Rice Bubble slice this morning for the lunch boxes this week. Yum!

Happiness is shared in flowers.

A wonderful weekend at the Wanaka A&P Show for the whole family. It’s always a challenge getting the flowers up there, and we often get some damage, but it’s worth it. There were so many more dahlia entries from local gardeners; it was awesome to see. It's a lovely family weekend with everyone participating in some form. Charlie and Harper entered the Home Industry section with their art and craft, and Millie did exceptionally well in horse jumping. Thank you to all the volunteers and stewards who make this event such a success and are always so welcoming and willing to help. Claire 🌹

The weather played its part yesterday in helping us welcome some lovely residents from Brooklands Village. We enjoyed a great morning tea, some by the outside fire. A walk around the garden to see the dahlias and to say hello to the alpacas, then over to the Flower Hut to find a nice bouquet to take home. It was a wonderful morning to share our garden. Thank you for visiting. Happiness is shared in flowers. Claire 🌹

Hi Everyone 🌹

After the saddening heavy rain and then the strong winds last Sunday I have had to postpone a garden tour for a Mosgiel retirement village this week. Something that I don’t like having to do.

Today, after two days of lovely sun and about 7 hours of deadheading and clearing away broken dahlias I am feeling much better and confident about the garden tour being a success next week, despite the big gaps of missing plants.

Andrew has been clearing away and sawing up branches that have smashed gardens we had only just repaired after the last winds and Graeme has been working hard to prune over grown trees.

I’ve even had a friend from Auckland who expected a few nice days in Dunedin out in the garden deadheading!

Thankfully I managed to help a lovely bride out with her wedding flowers a few weeks ago (pics below) and have a couple more weddings I’m hoping my flowers will bring joy on a special day.

I hope your gardens are surviving this unpredictable weather and you are enjoying some beautiful blooms! 🌸 Don’t forget to dead head, it will bring on growth to new flowers and give you a more prolific season.

Happiness is shared in flowers.

Happy Birthday to Bailey, who bought flowers with her friends from the Flower Hut today. Hope they made it to Kurow! 🌸

Enjoy your flowers and the rest of your Waitangi weekend. Harper and I really loved meeting everyone who visited.
