Meet Bluey the cat, Ryder’s latest custom order and possibly the most well-travelled member of the Snuggle Stitch crew! 🐱💙

Bluey was a family effort, with Nana crocheting his very stylish scarf and Ryder taking care of the rest. He has already journeyed from Mount Maunganui to Piha and is now heading to his new home on Auckland’s North Shore. Not bad for a cat with yarn for legs!

This adorable wee turtle was made for one of his classmates and is looking very pleased with its new shell. At approximately 25cm x 25cm, these cuddly turtles are $30 each and can be made in your choice of custom colours. Send us a message to order yours… shell we make one for you? 💚🧶

🧶 The Snuggle Stitch Workshop Is Back in Business!

After a busy summer and autumn, the Snuggle Stitch crew took a well-earned winter break. The crochet hooks were rested, the yarn supply recovered, and Ryder’s fingers were given a short holiday.

Now he is back on the tools, and business is booming in the school playground!

These cute little creations were custom ordered by Ryder’s classmates: a narwhal, a dolphin and one very wide-eyed little snowman with an excellent carrot nose. ⛄🐬

Apparently, school is no longer just for maths, English and lunchtime. It is also a handy place to find crochet customers.
Ryder has a few more custom orders to share with you this week. He is also looking forward to getting busy during the upcoming school holidays, building up stock for the summer market season as the cruise ships return to town.

Nothing says “school holidays” quite like a crochet hook, a mountain of chenille yarn and a growing production schedule!

What started as an idea, a crochet hook and a lot of determination became something truly magical.

Earlier this month, Ryder competed in the TOI Nationwide Wearable Art Competition, run in collaboration with the World of WearableArt, and was honoured to receive the Excellent Garment Construction Award for his wearable art piece, Veil of the Ocean. 🏆

Now, with the help of the incredibly talented Alizée, this glowing jellyfish has made its way from the stage to the shoreline as part of the TOI Creative Photo Challenge.

A huge thank you to Alizée for braving the winter beach, rocks and waves to help bring Ryder's vision to life. We think the results are simply magical. 🌊✨

🦦 Warning: Extreme Levels of Cuteness Ahead!

The Snuggle Stitch workshop has been busy again, and we think Ryder may have created our most adorable family yet.

Meet the newest members of the Snuggle Stitch crew — a family of sea otters! 💛

Inspired by Ryder's love of the ocean and furry little animals, these cuddly characters were created after he spent far too much time watching videos of sea otters floating around holding paws. One day he'd love to see a real sea otter up close, but until then, these crochet versions will have to do.

We have:

🦦 Big Otter – $60
🦦 Medium Otter – $30
🦦 Baby Otter – $15

The baby otter appears to have inherited all the family confidence and absolutely none of the personal space. Just look at that face. 😂

Each one is handmade with soft chenille yarn and is looking for a forever home where they can spend their days lounging around looking cute and avoiding responsibility.

🐱 Another Custom Kitty Finds a New Home!

Meet Ryder's latest custom creation — a very special crochet cat that proved to be a bit more challenging than your average feline.

The mission? Match the colours of a cat from a photo.

The solution? Deploy Nana. 🧶

After receiving her urgent assignment, Nana headed off on a yarn-hunting expedition to the new craft store in Tauriko. Several aisles, much deliberation, and one successful shopping trip later, the perfect yarn was found.

The result was a colour match that was very close — or should we say, nearly purr-fect. 😸

Thankfully, the birthday recipient was delighted with their new furry friend. The best part? This kitty doesn't shed, scratch the furniture, or demand breakfast at 5am.

It does, however, provide excellent snuggles.

🐙 Meet Henry — Auckland’s Newest Eight-Legged Resident!

It’s been a little quiet on the Snuggle Stitch page lately… but for good reason. Ryder has been BUSY working on his Wearable Arts Competition entry 👀 (more on that soon… and trust us, it’s pretty cool).

In between all the creative chaos, he somehow found time to crochet this giant blue-and-white octopus for this adorable little two-year-old girl. 💙

She’s named him Henry — and judging by the size of him, we’re not entirely sure there’ll be much room left in the bed for anyone else. 🐙😴

Henry has already travelled around the North Island and now officially calls Auckland home. Not bad for a crochet octopus. Most of us struggle to organise a weekend away.
