Papamoa Primary School | Entrance Feature
A design inspired by place, landscape and the identity of a school. ⛰️
I was contacted by Jerome at Magna Concrete, who was looking for help designing an entrance feature for Papamoa Primary School. My inital idea of creating something that felt connected to its surroundings while reflecting the school itself.
The Papamoa Hills became my starting point, combined with the school’s repeating triangle motif.
The challenge was to bring the hills to life and create the illusion of depth. By varying the height and scale of the peaks, recessing the smaller hills towards a central seat, and using a darker stain on the recessed elements, the design creates a sense of foreground and background.
The repeating triangular motif adds rhythm, dimension and a connection to the school’s identity, while the natural timber and landscaping help tie the feature back to the surrounding landscape.
It was a fun project to be part of with freedom to design, taking a simple idea inspired by the local landscape and turning it into a distinctive entrance feature for the school community.
