I stand in my truth not my wounds. A place to be seen not fixed. For wāhine in seasons of becoming.

Art as rongoā woven from lived experience. Kia ora, I’m Zena, the artist & wahine behind Dots On Rocks Aotearoa. My journey into painting began with a deeply personal and emotional experience. After my dad passed away, I attended his tangi and stepped onto a marae for the very first time. That experience was transformative—it reconnected me with my Māori roots and opened a door to my culture that

had been closed for the first 30 years of my life. Through this reconnection, I found healing, and my passion for art was reignited. Dots On Rocks was officially founded when I moved to Ruatoria, but the seed for this creative journey was planted when my best friend and cousin, Leah, passed away. It was then that I discovered the power of art through a simple rock, and in managing my mental health and PTSD, I turned to painting as a source of healing. During my time in Ruatoria, this seed grew, and art became my therapy, my expression, and my way of connecting. Now, I’ve moved back to Christchurch to take my art and business into a new chapter. I have a vision to grow a community of healing through the magic of art, and I’m excited to start teaching workshops, sharing my story, and helping others find peace and mindfulness through creativity. With a new home and studio underway, I’m filled with anticipation for the exciting times ahead. Ngā mihi nui for being part of this journey! Mauri ĀIO. Mauri Ora, Mauri Aroha

A couple of months ago, while I was up late one night in my studio painting a mandala, I heard a voice that took me straight back to one of the most traumatic moments of my life, the voice of the man who murdered my older brother Nathan. Since then I’ve been navigating some really deep waters with my mental health & as September arrives, I can feel my whole being bracing itself. I’ve always dreaded this month because it carries so much trauma & memories that live in my body long after the calendar has moved on. While everyone else is celebrating the arrival of spring, September has often felt like my deepest winter. So if I’ve been quieter or sharing as much, this is why. I haven’t disappeared, I’ve been doing deeper work, allowing myself to be held & finding my way back to me.

Last year knowing this season was coming I intentionally created moments to receive nourishment, connection & care when I knew I would need them most. So this year as we worked through the details of receiving my moko kauae, we landed on 30 September, my Dad’s 90th birthday. That date carries grief because he has passed but it also gives me an opportunity to create something new within it.

As I find my feet again & we move closer to receiving my moko kauae, I want to open this space back up & hear from my sisters who have received theirs. Plssss share what you’re comfortable to share about your journey because there may be a wāhine quietly watching who needs to see what becomes possible when we stop waiting for permission & begin claiming what has always been ours. Your story may become the guiding spark that lights the way for another sister, helping her see more clearly what is possible for her too.

MANDALA ART LOOKING FOR FOREVER HOMES ✨

**ONLY AVAILABLE IN AOTEAROA, NEW ZEALAND**

After the beautiful response to my last drop, I felt the pull to share a little more. So here we are, 15 mandalas, each carrying its own story, energy and intention, now searching for their forever hearts and homes across Aotearoa.

These pieces have been created through different seasons of my own journey, each one holding something different, healing, hope, possibility, resilience, becoming, dreams and the quiet magic that happens when we allow ourselves to grow.

This will be my final drop for the year, and I won’t be opening custom orders again until the new year. So if there’s a piece in this collection that catches your eye, makes you pause, or gives you that little ohhh…. listen to the pull.

If one of these mandalas feels like it is meant to find you, send me a DM and let’s see where that connection takes us.

Also there’s an extra layer of meaning behind this drop for me. Every piece that finds a home will help support me on my own next chapter, my journey home to receive my moko kauae.

So perhaps these aren’t simply paintings looking for homes. Perhaps they are little pieces of energy, story and intention ready to travel across Aotearoa and become part of someone else’s journey too.

Story time ✨

Last night I dreamt I had received my moko kauae. It was as if she had already become part of me, not just ink but in presence because I could feel her.

And when the moment came for me to meet her properly, a mirror was placed before me.

But I couldn’t look.

My eyes turned away again and again, as if the reflection might ask more of me than I was ready to give. As if seeing her meant being fully seen myself and I was doubting am I ready to meet that version of me yet.

I woke with the dream still warm in my chest, unsettled and tender, carrying the echo of it into this morning.

And I began to understand what it was really showing me, the uncertainty behind of being seen. The weight of perception. The way identity can feel vast and vulnerable when we stand at the edge of becoming.

It reminded me how far I’ve already walked through that fear because there was a time it would have held me completely still, like stone.

I’m sharing this because so many of you have written to me, in comments, in messages saying my journey has stirred something in you too. That you are dreaming of your moko kauae. That something in you has started listening.

And I know that fear. The one that whispers that we are not ready, not enough, not certain.

But maybe we are not meant to see the whole path at once.

Maybe we are only ever asked to turn toward the next moment and trust that when we do, the magic will already be there waiting for us

You are so much more than the accumulation of your fear✨
