Just a quick heads-up — our Tuai Maintenance crew will be starting their rubbish run a little earlier than usual āpōpō, as they’ve got a few extra errands to take care of in town.

We're excited to share:
✨ Strong Governance: Our trustees continue to provide excellent oversight, with audit prep and a Trust Order review underway.
💰 Operations Refined: 2025-2026 annual budget approved, boosting financial transparency and accountability for the year ahead.
🍎lunches: Fantastic feedback from tamariki and kaimahi! Our new Head of Kitchen is doing an amazing job, even prepping huge amounts of kai for the recent kura haerenga.
🏡 Housekeeping Support: A warm welcome to our new team member, bringing much-needed relief after a busy summer!
🛠️ Tuwai Maintenance: Our team is focused on strengthening health and safety with new practices for everyone's well-being.

TĒNĀ KOUTOU E NGĀ URI MAHA, OTIRĀ TE HAPORI O WAIKAREMOANA

The team at Whakamarino Lodge would like to update our whānau and community on what’s been happening at the lodge.

OUR RESET
In September 2024, new trustees were put in place by the Maori Land Court for a one-year term. Since then, improvements in the lodge’s operations have been made which include:
▪️We now have a clear plan that defines everyone's roles.
▪️The team leaders and the advisor share responsibilities.
▪️Additionally, the trustees are now more involved and in support of the daily activities through the advisor.

For now, we think it’s important to remind everyone who the trustees are, and to introduce our team working behind the scenes - getting the mahi done.

OUR TRUSTEES
▪️Te Iwa Rangihau (Chair) - Ngāti Hinekura

▪️Carl Anderson - Te Whānau Pani & Ngāti Hinekura

Achievements:
▪️Trustees have completed the Maori Land Court Governance Training.
▪️2023 – 2024 Financials are being prepared for audit.
▪️Trustees have met every month.
▪️Preparation on the review of the trust order is underway.
▪️AGM date is confirmed for the 26 July, 2025 - 1pm. Details for hui agenda to be confirmed.

Maxine, who first started in the role and got everything up and running, has been leading it over the past year. She’s recently stepped down, and Wiki has now stepped into the role, with continued support from Maxine.

SUMMARY OF KEY ACTIVITIES TO DATE
▪️Services Agreement between Ngati Ruapani mai Waikaremoana and Ruapani ki Waikaremoana Trustees is agreed to.
▪️Restructure proposal supported by trustees and employees.
▪️Services agreement between the lodge and Genesis accommodations is refreshed.
▪️Lunch in Schools contract secured for another year.
▪️Policies developed and awaiting endorsement by trustees.

We’re excited about the progress we’ve made and look forward to continuing this momentum. Thank you for your ongoing support as we work to strengthen the Lodge for the benefit of our community.

📷 LODGE UPGRADES: Kauri, Before & After shots - From old neglected backpackers to loved peaceful Lodge. Many hapu hands and contractors helped us bring back this whares potential, even our whānau from Aussy back home trying to have a holiday gave thier time 🥰.
