Tamryn Howard

Tamryn Howard An artist living and working in Ōtautahi, Aotearoa . I’m Tamryn and I like to make things. I saw a job ad for a leadlighting role, which I jumped at!

I’ve always had an interest in the arts and crafts, which ultimately led to me getting a Bachelor of Fine Arts. From there I went a wee bit off track and worked in the tattoo industry for a while (not tattooing however…) – even starting up a small art gallery within Absolution Tattoo here in Ōtautahi. So I currently work full-time as a leadlighter, but in my spare time I am also taking classes in ceramics and trying my hand at furniture upcycling.

My first "proper" test casting has been in the kiln since Friday afternoon.

Thanks to for the glass and advice!

I'll only get to see how this turned out when I get home from work today... 😬

..andddd Tuesday afternoon I could finally take it out!

After 36+ hour firing/annealing process 😳 (I may have been a touch conservative).

It needs a *little* bit of coldwork, but it's in one piece and not all over the inside of my kiln! 😂

And I might need some tips on why you can see the lines of the staggered glass? Possibly just cos I was using sheet scraps instead of billet?

Mini test for future plans... 👀

So this is my first attempt at a teeny weeny glass casting going into the kiln on Sunday afternoon....

I made myself a false portable wall for photographing artworks!

I didn't really have the space on my studio walls to do this with nice clean wall space surroundign anything that I hung, so I figured this was the best way around that.

It folds up so that I can slot it into a space between my glass rack and the wall.
