URBAN SPACE PLANNING

The goal of urban planning is to create safe, organized, and accessible spaces for people to move and live comfortably. To prevent issues such as clogged drainage, cracked pavements, narrow sidewalks, and unsafe edges, the areas must be well-maintained and repaired. Widening walkways, adding protective railings, and clearing pedestrian routes are some of the ways the issues will be addressed. Obstructions on roads and sidewalks should also be removed, tactile pavements should be accessible, and temporary barriers with proper signage must be provided. Proper, strategic urban planning will keep people safe and improve overall urban quality.

Local centers primarily serve to strengthen bonds within a defined geographic area, emphasizing shared heritage and collective well-being through direct engagement and localized support systems.​ Their strength lies in their ability to cater precisely to the needs and traditions of their immediate community, building a strong sense of belonging among residents.

International centers, however, operate on a broader scale, aiming to bridge cultural divides and encourage mutual understanding among people from different national and ethnic backgrounds. They often address global issues and facilitate a dialogue that transcends local boundaries, promoting a more inclusive and interconnected world community.

DAP-AYAN SUNRIDGE COMMUNITY CENTER
Park in Baguio City, Benguet

Inspired by the sunflower of the Panagbenga Festival, the DAP-AYAN SUNRIDGE COMMUNITY CENTER symbolizes growth, unity, and cultural celebration. Its S-shaped form follows the natural flow of the Baguio breeze, allowing the building to move in harmony with the climate while promoting natural ventilation and comfort.

Gardens woven throughout the site reflect Benguet’s agricultural heritage, while stone and wood elements echo the traditions of the Cordillera. The roof form rises and folds like the surrounding mountain ranges, grounding the structure in its landscape. Through a balance of open and enclosed spaces, the center becomes a living space for gathering, culture, and community—where modern design and local identity come together in sustainable harmony.

TAIPEI 101
Completed in 2004, Taipei 101 held the distinction of being the world's tallest building until the completion of the Burj Khalifa in 2010. Designed by C.Y. Lee & Partners, the structure serves as a modern icon of Taiwan, fusing traditional Asian aesthetics with cutting-edge engineering. The tower acts as an axis mundi (axis of the world), connecting heaven and earth. Its massing is divided into eight distinct canted segments of eight floors each—a nod to the Chinese number for prosperity (8) and the structural resilience of bamboo.
