My first ever goat-chain commission!
Yes, those are it's real horns turned to keychains.
This was very fun to make. I hope to make petchains of other animals again! 🖌️
EDIT: Hi! This post gained traction because of how people are concerned regarding the use of real horns for this keychain. I'd like to clear things up to avoid any misunderstanding.
I am a currently a senior veterinary medicine student. In our curriculum, we have a course entitled Large Animal Surgery. One of our procedures involve dehorning, a process that involves the removal of horns. The need for this depends on the situation of the animal. In most cases, the animal could hurt itself or those around them through headbutting, getting stuck in branches, or even getting in between horns of other animals. Horns can grow extremely long, sometimes could curl around itself and pierce the animal. Hence, why this procedure is important for us to learn.
Please be rest assured that the dehorning process is painless. We use the necessary anesthetics, local and regional, to provide the animal as much comfort as possible. The animal is not harmed or abused in any way, and ethical standards are practiced during the entire duration of the procedure. We also perform post-operative care and take care of the animal for its entire recovery progress.
This keychain is a memorabilia of a successful surgery of another fellow vetmed student. As future veterinarians, we always make sure to prioritize the animal's welfare. I understand the worry that this post may have caused, and I should have made a disclaimer in the first place if not sooner.
