Our Lady chose this blessed day of the Solemnity of the Annunciation to reveal Herself to Bernadette after many attempts. Though at the time, Bernadette did not know what it meant, she kept repeating it after the apparition, so that it wonβt slip her mind when she visits Abbe Peyramale, who also commanded Bernadette to ask for the Ladyβs name. The Priest later revealed to his neighbor, while still at the state of being skeptical about the Lady and the apparitions, in general, that upon hearing the account of Bernadette that day and the name that the Lady used to reveal Her identity, he was left at awe, almost at the verge of falling.
The sixteenth Lourdes apparition that we commemorate today serves as the heavenly confirmation of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception, which was proclaimed by Pope Pius IX in 1854, nearly 4 years before the apparition of Our Lady in Lourdes.
O Mary, conceived without sin,
pray for us who have recourse to thee!
