10 Gentle Reminders I Give My Child When She Isn’t Listening — Christian Mom Edition
1. “Mira, look at Nanay. I need you to listen for a moment.”
Instead of repeating myself louder and louder, I try to get her attention first.
2. “I know you want to keep playing, pero may kailangan tayong gawin.”
I can acknowledge her feelings without changing the boundary.
3. “You can be upset, but you still need to listen.”
Hindi bawal magalit. Pero may tamang response pa rin.
4. “Let’s try that again, okay?”
Minsan kailangan lang ng second chance—not another sermon.
5. “What did Nanay just ask you to do?”
Instead of assuming she deliberately ignored me, I give her a chance to respond.
6. “Do you need help?”
Sometimes what looks like disobedience is actually distraction, tiredness, or not knowing what to do next.
7. “I’m getting frustrated, so Nanay is going to take a breath first.”
Because being a Christian mom doesn't mean I never get angry.
It means I'm learning how to handle my anger.
8. “We can talk about this when we're both calm.”
Hindi lahat ng correction kailangang mangyari habang mainit ang emotions.
9. “I love you, but I still need you to obey.”
Love doesn't mean removing every boundary.
10. “Let's pray about it.” 🙏🏻
Because sometimes the mom needs God's wisdom just as much as the child needs correction.
🤍 And my reminder to myself:
I don't have to be a perfect Nanay to raise my child in Christ.
I will still lose my patience sometimes.
I will still have moments na mapapataas ang boses ko.
But I can apologize.
I can try again.
I can ask God for wisdom.
Because Christian parenting isn't about raising a child who never makes mistakes.
It's also about showing them what it looks like when mom makes mistakes, turns back to God, asks for forgiveness, and tries again.
“The wise woman builds her house…” — Proverbs 14:1
Hindi ako perfect Nanay. Just a Nanay saved by grace, learning to parent with grace too. 🤍
