🌍 **1st Overseas Pakistanis Convention in Islamabad - A Resounding Success!**

Today marked the beginning of the inaugural Overseas Pakistanis Convention in Islamabad, attended by over 400 non-resident Pakistanis representing 12 million from around the globe. Annually, these dedicated individuals contribute over $27 billion in remittances to Pakistan.

High Commissioners from the UK, KSA, UAE, South Africa, Italy, and Malaysia represented key regions like ASEAN, EU, ME, and Africa. They discussed achievements, challenges, and future opportunities, emphasizing the need for greater integration between the diaspora and various government ministries.

The event, hosted by the Chairperson of the Overseas Pakistani Foundation (OPF), was coordinated with the assistance of multiple government departments, including Trade, Commerce & Investment, Special Facilitation Investment Council (SFIC), and the Interior Ministry.

It was great to hear conversation about track 2.0 diplomacy in the region with wonderful speakers. Peter Jones holds a Ph.D. in War Studies from Kings' College, London, and an MA in War Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada. Before joining the University of Ottawa, he served as a senior analyst for the Security and Intelligence Secretariat of the Privy Council of Canada. Previously, he held various positions related to international affairs and security at the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Privy Council Office, and the Department of Defence. An expert on security in the Middle East and track-two diplomacy, he led the Middle East Security and Arms Control Project at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) in Sweden in the 1990s. He is presently leading several Track Two initiatives in South Asia and the Middle East, and is also widely published on Iran.
Ambassador Zamir Akram is currently Advisor to the Strategic Plans Division, Government of Pakistan. He holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He also served as the Honorary Dean of the Geneva School of Diplomacy in 2010, where he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate. He has served as Pakistan’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN and other International Organizations and has served in the (former) Soviet Union, India, the United States, and the United Nations. He has dealt with key issues including Kashmir, Afghanistan, nuclear disarmament, human rights and counterterrorism in his career. He continues to write articles for major Pakistani newspapers and international journals covering these issues and has authored the book titled “The Security Imperative – Pakistan’s Nuclear Deterrence and Diplomacy”.
