This year I decided to take part in Concurso Sardinhas an annual international art contest held in Lisbon as part of the Festas de Lisboa celebrations

Festas de Lisboa is a city-wide cultural celebration where one of the most iconic symbols of Lisbon ,the sardine , is reinterpreted by artists from around the world.

The 2026 theme was “What is your story?”, and I wanted to create something deeply personal.

My project is called “Nova Identidade” (“New Identity”).

It is a visual story about emigration, transformation and cultural identity.

The sardine represents a person carrying their history, memories and cultural code while entering a new culture and a new life.

The black-and-white checkered pattern symbolizes one identity.
The blue circular pattern symbolizes another.

Where they meet, the patterns gradually merge into a completely new visual language, different from the originals, yet created from both.

For me, this project is about how experiences, places and cultures transform us while still preserving parts of who we are.

Although my work was not selected among the winners, creating it became a meaningful and inspiring experience❤️
