INTERACTING WITH THE ARCHIVES: DAY 03. 🤎

Lately, visiting the studio has become less frequent, but whenever I want to pause and find a moment of calm, my studio gives me shelter. Whenever I look at my past work, it reminds me that this is also just a phase, and that I have to return here again. We usually don’t look back to move forward, but looking back right now tells me that I am moving in the right direction.
Today, let’s revisit one of my most calm and balanced works—Datum and Drift.

This piece is a compelling study in juxtaposition and balance. Defined by a warm palette of apricot, sienna, and deep chocolate, the work creates a layered, angular space.

The ‘Datum’ is the solid, near-black vertical column, anchoring the composition—representing weight, foundation, and certainty. Contrasting this static force is the ‘Drift’: a fine coiling line that ascends with kinetic, organic energy.
When I look at it today, the tension between structure and impulse feels so much like my own life—a need for absolute grounding and foundation on one side, and the hope to keep moving forward amidst every difficulty on the other.

INTERACTING WITH THE ARCHIVES: DAY 02. 🤎

I am deeply grateful for the endless grace you’ve shown me during this difficult chapter. Stepping away from creating is hard, but looking back at my past work is reminding me of who I am as an artist.

Today’s archive is Etude.

This piece was born from a desire to capture both structure and flow. I remember the exact feeling of painting those bold, sweeping strokes of deep charcoal—how they felt so deliberate and confident against the softened, neutral background.

It is a piece about balance and definition. Etude brings a grounding presence to a room, and looking at it today, it brings that same grounding presence to my heart.

Living in the space in-between. 🤎

It has been a few weeks since I shared my reality with you all. In that time, I have shared pieces of my archive, looking for calm in the past because the present remains so incredibly heavy.

The truth of my days right now is split in two. Half of my heart is still in my studio, longing to pick up the brushes and create. The other half—the larger half—is entirely consumed by the search for my father. Every phone call, every sunset, and every quiet moment is filtered through his absence.

I am incredibly grateful for how you have embraced my archive posts. Seeing you save, share, and comment on my past work shows me that the art community we built together is holding the fort while I am away. You are keeping NKKS Studio alive. We are a generation of wanderers.

We move fast, we scroll endlessly, and we change our skins to match the room. We are fluid to the point of evaporating. We have forgotten what it feels like to stand still.

“The Internal North” is an immovable object.

Observe the weight of the composition. These forms are not floating; they are stacked. They feel architectural, like ancient pillars surviving a Storm. The texture is rough and scuffed, showing the labor of existing in a physical world.

This piece is a rejection of fluidity. It is about locating the singular, fixed point inside yourself that does not move, no mater how much the world spins around it.

We often think that geography defines us. That the soil in one part of the world speaks a different dialect than another. But the need for grounding is universal.

“Abstract Earthy Forms” is study in soft collisions.

Look at how the brown pigment drags over the cool grey. It isn’t a conflict; it is an embrace. It represents the moments where our heavy realities meet our lighter hopes. The forms are not rigid-they breathe. They bleed into the canvas, refusing to be contained by harsh outlines.

Today, this silence travels to Belgium.

It leaves my studio to bring its own quiet weight to a new wall, in a new country. It is a reminder that no matter where we are on the map, we are all looking for the same thing: a place to rest our eyes.

Complexity is a hiding place.

We layer our lives with noise to avoid the silence. We otherthink to avoid feeling. We decorate the truth until it is unrecognisable.

“Sunao” (素直) strips it all back.

Look at the center band-it is not a smooth gradient. It is dry, scratching drag of charcoal against paper. It skips and stutters. It captures the friction of the moment without trying to polish it away.

There is no gloss here. There is no attempt to please the eye with perfect symmetry.

It is a reminder that the most honest version of yourself is usually the rawest one. To be “Sunao” is to be unadorned.

Honesty doesn’t need decoration. It just needs to stand.
