Before the moodboards, materials and pretty visuals, there’s a lot of thinking that needs to happen. How you live. What your home is missing. What the space can realistically accommodate. What needs to work within the existing conditions. A good renovation isn’t about jumping straight to the design. It’s about getting the thinking right first. Because when the planning is solid, the final design has a much better chance of working beautifully in real life.

They trusted the process fully from start to finish, and gave us a gift at handover. That trust is what let us actually push the ideas through.

The flat is a resale unit over 20 years old. They wanted the living area to feel economical but still open, so we built a bar counter with a foldable glass partition above it. Open, the space feels maximized. Closed, the kitchen gets its own zone.

Their square kitchen became U-shaped for more storage, with a tall unit holding the microwave and oven together. Even the balcony's exposed PVC piping got boxed into custom carpentry.

Jurong West, resale flat over 20 years old.

The brief was an economical living area that still felt open. We built a bar counter with a foldable glass partition above it, so the space opens up fully or closes off the kitchen when needed.

The old square kitchen is now U-shaped for more storage, with a tall unit keeping the microwave and oven together. Even the balcony's exposed PVC piping got boxed into custom carpentry, hidden behind the storage doors.

Designed around a young family, not just a floor plan. The bedroom nook keeps things within reach. The bathroom stays clean and minimal. And Helios's first footprints get their own little corner by the entrance, not hidden away.

Look beyond the cabinets. Hacking, plumbing, flooring, and wall works can quietly change the final bill. Check specifics too, like how many feet of cabinets and how much countertop, since vague line items make quotes impossible to compare fairly.

A good layout also considers how everything connects, not just how each room looks on its own. Style comes after that is sorted, not before.

A curved feature wall behind the bed upstairs. A staircase that opens straight into the living room downstairs.

The bedroom leans soft, with an arch tracing the headboard wall and a bay seat catching the window light. Downstairs, the living and dining areas open into each other under a chandelier that runs the length of the table, the staircase acting almost like a piece of furniture.

Blue headboards, gold trim, and a wardrobe built flush against the bed frame so getting dressed doesn't mean crossing the room.

The blue upholstered sofa and pillows echo the tone of the artwork above the bed, so nothing here feels picked separately. The media wall took the boldest swing, vertical wood slats and brass accents on a feature wall that reads more like a statement piece than a TV console.
