60 years of Sogetsu: Blooms Beyond Time, a charity fundraising effort by Singapore Sogetsu Association in aid of Club Rainbow Singapore. One of the event highlights was the 60th Anniversary Charity Gala Dinner, held on 18th July 2026 at Shangri-La Hotel, with a special demonstration by Iemoto Akane Teshigahara, headmaster of Sogetsu Japan, who delivered a powerful performance using a variety of tropical materials, including large pieces of bamboo.

The elegant dinner was graced by the Guest of Honour, HE Mr. Hiroshi Ishikawa, Ambassador of Japan to Singapore, and attended by Mr. Allen Zheng, vice-president of Club Rainbow Singapore, as well as top officials from Japanese corporations.

Iemoto's demonstration included 5 table arrangements, 1 floor arrangememt and 1 large grand finale, assisted by Za Sogetsu, as well as local commitee members.

In honour of 60 years of Singapore Sogetsu, the association awarded long-term committee members for their unwavering dedication and commitment in serving the association, including 10+ and 20+ years of service, friendship award, pioneer award and diamond award (more than 30+ years of service).

The Opening Ceremony for Singapore Sogetsu Association's 60th Anniversary Charity Exhibition, Blooms Beyond Time, was held at Takashimaya Shopping Center on 14th August 2026. The event was graced by the Guest of Honour, Ms. Jane Ittogi, wife of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore, Japan Creative Center Director, Akiko Kawabe, high-ranking Japanese corporate representatives, Singapore Sogetsu Association (SSA) members, advertisers and donors.

Both Ms. Kawabe and Mrs. Pandora Ip addressed the audience, followed by the official ribbon-cutting ceremony and a stimulating taiko drum performance by Hibikiya.

The exhibition floor was subsequently opened to all attendees, who admired the creative works of SSA exhibitors at both L1 Atrium and basement 1 event space.

Mrs. Pandora Ip, President of Singapore Sogestsu Association, talks about the delivery, combined effort and construction of this amazing bamboo installation, an ode and in recognition of twin milestone celebrations - 60 years of diplomatic relation between Japan and Singapore, as well as 60 years of the establishment of Singapore Sogetsu Association.

Mrs. Tsng Bee Lan's elegant Sogetsu Ikebana demonstration on 16th August 2026 at Takashimaya Shopping Center L1, caught the attention of shoppers and roused their interest in ikebana.

Ms. Teo Siet Lim's Sogetsu Ikebana demonstration at Takashimaya Shopping Center L1, on 15th August last Saturday, was truly a sharing session of her knowledge and skill at construction and design. She highlighted various tropical leaves and the use of local branches in her ikebana.

An interview with Iemoto Akane Teshigahara, an artists's perspective on the inspiration, design and construction of "Kodo" (pulsation).

The year 2026 marks the 60th anniversary of the Sogetsu Singapore Branch. Coincidentally, it is also the 60th anniversary of the founding of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan. I am deeply honored to have this wonderful opportunity to present my work during such a significant year.

This piece was inspired by the vibrant energy of the people of Singapore and its awe-inspiring cityscape, which evokes a sense of futurism. Bamboo as a material, is known for its flexibility and strength, allowing for a vast range of expressions. For this installation, I have focused on the dignified, straight lines of the bamboo. Arranged in a radial pattern, these lines embody a majestic bravery, evoking the mane of the lion—the symbol of Singapore.

In an era when AI is sweeping the world, I believe there is a deeper significance in works created by human hands. It would be to my great satisfaction if you feel the pulse of life and spirit within this creation.

The Opening Ceremony for Kodo 2026 (Pulsation), a large-scale bamboo installation by Iemoto Akane Teshigahara of Sogetsu School Japan, on 19th July 2026, was a historic event as it marked the 60th anniversary of Japan and Singapore diplomatic relations (SJ60), as well as the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of Singapore Sogetsu Association.

This unique and intriguing structure located at Singapore's Gardens by the Bay, is Iemoto's inaugural bamboo installation in Asia (excluding Japan).

Inspired by the beautiful landscape of the city, as well as the dynamic energy of its people, Pulsation brings the same energy and dynamism into every bamboo stalk. Architecturally, the bamboos have been placed in a radial pattern, shaped like a lion's mane, personifying majestic bravery - strengthening the imagery of Singapore built by Japanese art.

Bamboo has always played a major role in Sogetsu Ikebana and continues to inspire a multitude of creations due to it's strength, resilience and flexibility.

KODO 2026 (PULSATION) 鼓動, a monumental bamboo installation by Ms Akane Teshigahara, Fourth Iemoto (Headmaster) of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, Tokyo, Japan. Presented by Singapore Sogetsu Association (SSA), the rare large-scale bamboo installation in Asia outside of Japan commemorates two significant milestones: the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan (SJ60) and the 60th anniversary of Singapore Sogetsu Association (SSA60).

The title "Kodo" (鼓動), meaning heartbeat or pulsation, expresses the living energy that runs through the installation. Through the strength, rhythm and movement of bamboo, the work celebrates creativity, resilience and the enduring human spirit.

Iemoto was inspired by the vibrant energy of the people of Singapore and its awe-inspiring cityscape, which evokes a sense of futurism. Arranged in a radial pattern, these lines embody a majestic bravery, evoking the mane of the lion—the symbol of Singapore.

Through "Kodo 2026 (Pulsation)", SSA is honoured to celebrate six decades of friendship between Singapore and Japan while sharing the beauty, innovation and spirit of Sogetsu Ikebana with the wider community.
