Sunday dinner was a special celebration! Our firstborn Patrick Kok turns 30! The big 3 0. He will soon leave home with his lovely Mrs to build his own nest, will soon have someone calling him papa. So many milestones for him this 2nd half of 2026.

So yes this mama bear is feeling a little emo. More than ever this year, I say it again “where did the time go?” Am so proud of him! Wish and pray the best for him, that he will enjoy the next phase, and that our good God guide him and bless him always!

During our off weeks, when not hosting intimatesuppers, our time is more flexible. Apart from prep work, we also cook family favourites or try new out of menu dishes just for the fun of it.

A few weeks ago, The Hubs Kok F**k Onn made kimchi.

We all love his kimchi, including our helper Y. It’s fresh, just the right amount of heat and acidity!

Apart from eating it as a banchan, with hot rice, we also use it in our noodle soup…

… and in our kimchi fried rice! SO so delicious!!

Yesterday’s lunch was at Maxwell Food Centre. Made a beeline for this Bak Chor Mee stall at 11:15am before the queue got too long. Rewarded with a delicious meal! Thanks to the post from a friend Ping Ping Ng 🙏🏻

QQ mee pok noodles, spicy umami chilli, just enough vinegar, and the crispy fish and pork lard… perfect combo!

The soup was light and flavourful, lots of goodies inside! Springy fishballs, liver slices were thinner but cooked just right.

Also scored us some Tapioca Kueh and Kueh Kosui from this stall a few units to the right. My dad used to buy this for us when he was still working in Raffles Place.

Soft tender and not overly sweet

One of the house favourites when it comes to home made bread! Milk and butter loaf has a tender crumb, without being gummy. It’s fragrant, and great for both sweet and savoury sandwiches!

Bought these dried morel mushrooms the other day and been wondering what to do with them. Rehydrated them and stuffed them with mince pork, carrot mix and steamed them. These are small ones so I couldn’t really stuff it with much. It’s more of a trial run. Haven’t worked with these mushrooms before. Won’t be the last as they are so delicious.

This was meant to be a pear upside down cake, but somehow the pears floated.

Tender pears in the middle of the cake, with a crispy top from the toasted oats, with just a hint of ginger and cinnamon.

Almost 7 years passed since my Baby Girl said she loved this Russian tea cake. I’ve not ventured into making this because it looks so ambitious. Finally, I made it for her this year! 💪🏻 Baking layer by layer, then assembling it. Not difficult but process-filled.

Through it all, am thinking how lucky I am to have this family! How my Baby Girl is now a considerate compassionate young lady. And How time flies!! Shouldn’t wait this long to bake that cake.

I’m so proud of this lady! Beautiful inside out!
