Drawpaintcreate Reflections from an Elementary art studio. My attempt at capturing and storing those fun and 'Aha' moments in my wonderful journey as an art teacher!

Art has been a deep passion for me since childhood and I teach art at a school. Its been such a memorable journey for my students and me, watching them grow at their own pace and develop their skills across the academic year and this just feels like the next natural step- showcasing my students amazing creations. When I am not teaching, I paint, do sketches, soak up some of the scenic beauty in

this city in my search for inspiration, visit museums and travelling exhibitions, read up on my other great passion-spirituality and spend time with my family. I hope you can all join me in my journey and experience some of the wonder and satisfaction that I derive from this colourful creative endeavor...

The annual school production featured a theatrical adaptation of the 'Sound of Music' film, for which custom backdrops of the abbey, living room, and garden, complete with bushes, were required. I was able to fulfill the drama director's requirements within a 14-day period, during which I appreciated the opportunity to paint and create in the peaceful environment of the art room, as the regular timetables were collapsed to accommodate rehearsals and practice. Additionally, the director and I arranged for the procurement of sturdy metal stands to support the backdrops. I used eighteen large sheets of paper, taped them together, and affixed them to each of the metal stands with tape. Undertook the sketching and painting after mounting the paper.

Zentangles are a meditative drawing method that use repetitive patterns to create abstract, intricate designs, promoting relaxation and creative expression.

The art form was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. It involves drawing structured, repetitive patterns to form abstract designs, often on small paper tiles.
Zentangles promote focus, stress relief, and creativity. There are no mistakes in Zentangle—every mark is intentional.
The Art club students created these Zentangles, doodling on paper plates. Some of them intentionally turned theirs into a mandala style artwork with radial symmetry. Some of the takeaways from this project were the elements of lines shapes and patterns.

Grade 6 students created an artwork based on the conventional Block printing technique. Students initially drew designs on A5 paper, employed the transfer method to duplicate the sketch in their sketchbooks and coloured them using colour pencils. This project proved to be an engaging and error-free artistic activity that the students loved.

The Grade 6ers created detailed drawings and shaded fruits from a live table setting. They developed an understanding of value as a fundamental element of art and then studied the effects of light and shadow on the fruits, striving to recreate them. This exercise enhanced their powers of observation and directed their attention to the nuances of light and shade.

Students of Grade 2 crafted these paper collages in the style of French artist Henri Matisse, known for his famous 'painting with scissors' art. The project's key learning outcomes included geometric and organic shapes, as well as colour contrast. Students cut out geometric shapes and pasted them down, overlapping them with cut organic shapes. They were quite thrilled with their colourful handiwork.

Aren’t these abstract art pieces wonderful? Grade 4 students discovered contrast as a design principle and the rhythmic flow possible in pulled-string art. They tapped into their creativity to interpret the artwork before adding color to create contrast.

My grade 2 students explored concepts of positive and negative space through this block printing project. Students coloured in their sketchbooks with oil pastel colour, they then etched styrofoam sheets with leaf designs before inking the designs and printing the same on the oil pastel work. They enjoyed the freedom they had to choose the style of oil pastel colouring as well as the designs of their leaf sketch.
Both students and teacher alike loved the way these colourful works with many learning objectives turned out.
