: Japanese tourist shares shocking story! Forced to buy a ring on a Thai tour because: she could sell it for a better price than the ring her husband gave her.
This story has gone viral online after a Japanese user, X, recounted her experience on a tour in Bangkok several years ago. She described being taken to a suspicious-looking jewelry shop and feeling pressured to buy something. She wrote: “昔ツアーで連れて行かれた怪しいバンコクの宝石店で無理矢理買わされた感の指輪…確か当時は4000だか7000円だった記憶…1番安いのを買った” which means she was taken to a suspicious jewelry store in Bangkok and felt pressured to buy a ring, so she chose the cheapest one, which cost around 4,000–7,000 yen at the time.
However, the story took a recent turn. After taking her jewelry to a valuation shop for resale, and showing them a ring she bought in Bangkok, she recounted, "今日買取査定でそれをおまけで出したら夫に貰った給料2ヶ月分のダイアの婚約指輪より高く評価ついて笑う" which translates to, "When I took that ring to be appraised today, it fetched a higher price than the diamond engagement ring my husband gave me, which is worth the equivalent of two months' salary."
The poster also mentioned that this incident happened a long time ago, and at the time, she never expected that the item she reluctantly bought would become such a surprising surprise later on. She concluded cheerfully with "Thank you, Bangkok," causing the post to be widely shared and becoming another travel experience that netizens found both funny and amazing at the same time.
