This week we're featuring hardstone trees! These beautiful works of art are miniature landscapes always in bloom, an art form descended from the Chinese practice of penjing that would go on to inspire bonsai in Japan. These trees can run the value spectrum from priceless imperial treasures made with precious metals, rare jewels, and exotic materials like inlaid kingfisher feathers, to cheap plastic gift shop copies for the tourist market.
