I've been woodworking for over fifteen years now, and I can say it is one of the greatest passions I have in life because I get to draw from my own creative inspiration for my projects. Originally born and raised in Central Midwest, I have lived in New York state now for the last 10 years. Once I adjusted to the cold, I found the overall northeast area of the country to be one of the most quaint and beautiful places to live. I appreciate my growing network of small business owners in the area, and I especially support those owned and operated by women.

See me this weekend on Sunday, October 11th at the Mabee Farm Historic Site - SCHS in Rotterdam Junction, NY, for their annual Fall Fest! Over 60 vendors will be there, including me! I'll be selling vintage-style handmade rolltop bread boxes made from beautiful hardwoods and including interlocking slats. Pictured below is one of my bread boxes made out of walnut.

Sometimes the coolest things to build aren't new design ideas at all. I love these vintage-style rolltop bread boxes so much I made one for myself out of white oak with interlocking tambour slats. The bread boxes with the rolltop lids were popular in the 1950s and before when bread didn't have the same chemical preservatives and plastic wrapping it does now. If you bake bread or buy it from a baker these bread boxes are a great way to keep it fresh longer.

My FINAL vid on the bird feeder - INSTALLED! 😁

Within minutes of putting it up outside, a little finch stopped by to have a snack. I spied her through my kitchen window; when I excitedly and stupidly went to open the window to see her better, the noise scared her off 🥹 Maybe I'll get a bird camera to see them better when they eat!

The bird feeder painted with cedar roof finished! I used an outdoor Sherwin Williams tinted paint. I'll add a removable fine screen feed tray later. It will go on a 4x4 post with a squirrel baffle installed beneath it.

This feeder was built mostly out of scrap wood I had laying around the shop, including the plywood box. This is why woodworkers rarely throw away cutoff scraps. It's rewarding to repurpose into something useful and cool 🙂 I can hardly wait to make more!
