A couple of quick little practice paintings I did from my very neglected gouache lessons this week. I started with too dark of a background on the green one, and the tiny straight lines for rain drops were hard! I don’t really love the end result, but it was good practice!

Finishing up a fun little project today. What is it? You might have to find me at the winter markets to find out. 🙂

Gouache homework. This one looked a lot better a few days ago! I don’t recommend getting distracted by beautiful summer days and leaving your unfinished painting by a window for a week to bake in the blazing sun. I was actually surprised by how much the colors faded in that amount of time. I touched up some of the colors as you can see in the second picture, but couldn’t do all of them without really making a mess. Good thing it was just for practice and not a commission!

Gouache homework: it’s a bit of a mess but it was good practice on painting in a more loose style and softening and blending layers. Dry gouache reactivates with water, which can be frustrating when you don’t want it to, but it can also result in some really beautiful effects if you do it right.
