🤪 I ruined my first fleece! Romney. I failed scouring, and tried dyeing it with RIT. Then hid it in my closet under the stairs. I bet the ram fleece odor still lingers to this day. I am so glad the internet hardly existed, when I started my dye alchemy way back. [You see, I am 55 yrs of age this year. I have a lot of knowledge, and still learning.]
I am a self taught artist (mostly). Thus the I am not a teacher warning label. I found my way, so can you 🩷 There's room at the table for all of us. ✨️💛

Flash forward.
😅 30 years dye experience. 20 year scouring fleece under my belt.
I thankfully, no longer hide fleeces under my stairs. Unless, I am sneaking more wool in .😆😂

🧶 A little piece of fiber history! 💜

Around 2010, I was interviewed by Arlene Thayer for Spin Artiste an online fiber-art publication celebrating handspinning & creative fiber artists, and their wonderful world behind the wool.
The project featured, like 100 spinners, documenting a vibrant community of makers and their work.
The original website is no longer online, so with Arlene's permission, I'm sharing my five-page interview here to help preserve a little piece of our fiber community's history.

I've been part of this world for a long time, and my love of wool, spinning, and making is still going strong.
I hope this read inspires you 🩷✨️

😄 Just lil ol me, and Peaches the calico kitty dyeing all the things. Rambo-Merino is coming along well!
I have to curb myself from using more green dye. I am obsessed with greens suddenly 😅
I have also dyed some stunning blues. Deep saturated color, that won't mute out when spun up. How cool is that! I can't wait to test spin this fiber.

28 micron superwash is way interesting! 😊 Have a beautiful day, Sayra.
