Hi everyone, it’s David from Tchotchkes. On this date in 2021, Tchotchkes in Barbara’s Corner opened for business selling Dixie Belle paint products in a much smaller space. Tchotchkes was a dream of Marie Robertson Hickman, a place to celebrate and encourage creativity here in Athen, Tx. We are one of the largest Dixie Belle retailers in the great state of Texas and we are also a THREE time Top 100 Dixie Belle retailer in the entire U.S. if it’s a Dixie Belle product, we carry it including the fantastic new Curated Collection.

I wish Marie could be here for the store’s anniversary today, but I know she is looking down and smiling to see her dream is continuing. I want to thank all of our loyal customers who have supported the store and myself through this difficult time. I also want to thank the owners and vendors of Barbara’s Corner for their support,

Hi everyone, it’s David from Tchotchkes. This was a very difficult post for me to do, not only because it was painful but because I wanted to make sure I thought out what I wanted to do and say. Tchotchkes founder and creative force, my wife Marie Hickman, passed away in early February of this year. Tchotchkes was a dream she had for many years and she was finally able to bring it to life here in Athens after she “retired”. Her love of furniture restoration, crafting, art, teaching others how to unlock their creativity and antiques was the cornerstone of our store and brought great joy to her life. Once she passed, I was left with a choice I never thought I would have to make. But in some ways, it was an easy decision. I’ve decided to keep Tchotchkes open in honor of her memory and to try and fill her very big shoes when it comes to helping our customers continue to make their worlds more beautiful. Once I get things settled, I will resume classes in our store starting with our Furniture 101 class and will be physically in the store more often.

I’d like to thank the owners, staff and vendors of Barbara’s Corner here in downtown Athens for their kindness, support and prayers during this difficult time. Thank you to our customers who have continued to support the store during this time. And a heavenly thank you to Marie for making such a wonderful place for people to design and beautify their world.

Please join us in congratulating Ms. Thaily Ordonez Ramos on an outstanding performance at the Area auditions. Thaily earned 2nd Chair flute out of 23 competitors, placing her in the Top 4 and qualifying her for the 4A All-State Band.
She will perform in San Antonio from February 11–14th.
We are incredibly proud of her achievement!
