The anatomy of a mixed-media piece.

At the time when I created this piece, I was traveling and passed the exit for Bishopville, SC, my mom’s ancestral home. Her family left there, migrating to Jim Town, now known as Southern Pines, NC. The photograph of the silo was taken there. The woman figure is from UNC archives. The dog whose name I forget, belonged to Ellen Warren who lived in Madison, GA. She was my dear friend who passed away earlier this year. I used to “hide out” at her farm. She raised angus cattle. The entire composition I titled “Chopping Magnolias” and speaks to my memories of Mississippi and the south. The magnolia is the Mississippi’s state flower.

Hope to see you there!
