What is inspiring us this month comes from Senior Director Lissette Corey, and it all comes back to one thing: the art of slowing down.

From connecting with nature and immersing herself in live music to noticing the ornate details in the spaces around her, Lissette finds inspiration in the moments that ask you to be fully present.

She is also drawn to spaces that support deeper focus, layered textiles, color drenching, and warm lighting. And at the end of the day, tech-free time at home with the people she loves.

As designers, how we rest and restore matters just as much as how we work. Swipe through to see what has been inspiring Lissette lately.

Last week the Hendrick team hosted visits from Sesco Lighting and Teknion Atlanta. Both brought their latest product offerings to us, gave us a closer look at what is new, and helped us stay sharp on what is possible for our clients.

Staying connected to the vendors and partners behind our projects matters, we always walk away knowing more than we did before! Thank you to Sesco and Teknion.

Meet Jorge Mateo, Principal at Hendrick. He starts every morning with coffee, a moment of appreciation and reflection, and brings that same intentionality to every project he touches.

For Jorge, Life-Centered Design means remembering that every project ultimately affects people's lives. It is about putting clients, their employees, the communities they serve, and the Hendrick team at the center of every decision. That perspective, combined with his ability to work across both architecture and interior design, shapes how he thinks about the work and how he leads others through it.

When he is not in the studio, you will find him spending time with his daughter and new grandson, or out on a mountain bike somewhere finding peace in the outdoors.

Swipe through to get to know him a little better.

Last Friday, the Hendrick team took the runway at IIDA Georgia's Dressed 2026. Inspired by Morocco, our entry drew from the rich patterns, architecture, and traditions of Moroccan culture, brought to life through textile swatches, intricate tilework references, hand-sewn details, and a skirt full of lights that stopped the show.

We are so proud of Amy, Lily, Caroline, and Darsha for their dedication, creativity, and the time they invested in making this happen. To the entire Hendrick team who came out to cheer them on, thank you! Special thanks to our sponsors, Corporate Environments, Southern Lighting Source, and CFC Group, for making this possible!

Hendrick's work on the Mag Mutual headquarters in Atlanta was recently featured in Work Design Magazine.

The 40,000 square foot hospitality-forward headquarters supports a hybrid workforce with a range of workspaces, meeting environments, wellness amenities, and technology-enabled spaces — all shaped by a deep workplace strategy engagement with the Mag Mutual team before a single design decision was made.

The result is a space that gives employees real choice in how and where they work. Early feedback has been enthusiastic.

Our Managing Principal Jennifer Treter keeps coming back to a story from a Design Futures Council piece about the 1981 Hyatt Regency walkway collapse. Her perspective:

The short version: a design change went through during construction. It doubled the load on a connection that was never re-engineered to hold it. The firm approved it without rerunning the calculations. What should have been a routine follow-up check simply never happened, and for a full year, thousands of people walked across that structure with no idea it had already failed on paper.

From Jennifer's perspective:

What strikes me isn't the engineering failure. It's the human one — a moment where someone needed to pause and ask "does this still hold?" and didn't.

I think about that a lot as AI moves into our workflows. Give these tools a task and they'll carry it out — quickly, confidently, and without pausing to weigh whether it's the right call in the first place. That confidence is the quiet risk: a rushed piece of human work usually looks rushed. AI output looks finished either way. It doesn't give us the visual cues we've relied on to know when to slow down.

Which tells me something about where our value is actually headed. Not toward producing faster — the tools already do that better than we can. Toward observing. Verifying. Asking the question the tool won't ask itself.

The technology will keep getting more capable. Whether that capability builds something excellent or repeats a mistake at scale still comes down to someone in the loop who's willing to check.

How can our role as designers, observers, researchers, and guardians be shaped to ensure the successful outcome and care of the solutions we create with AI?

Thanks to Design Futures Council for putting this piece out and creating space for this kind of reflection.

This month, we are asking our team what is inspiring them. For Junior Designer Lily Peelman, it is Morocco.

Lily is participating in IIDA Georgia's Dressed 2026 as part of the Hendrick team this year. With the theme of Around the World, the team chose Morocco, and the process of exploring its music, patterns, architecture, fashion, and traditions has been its own kind of design education.

In Lily's words: "Learning about Moroccan culture has made me realize how much inspiration can come from simply being curious."

The event is this Friday, September 18. Let's رقص (dance)!

A day in the life at Hendrick, through the eyes of Junior Designer Lily Peelman!

The day started with a coffee pop-up from Stellow, moved into material pulls with Designtex and finish selections at ADAC, a working session at the Steelcase showroom, new furniture from WIT Contract stopping by the office, and ended with working on a dress for IIDA's Dressed 2026.

A day spent curious, creative, and fully caffeinated...just how we like it.

Hendrick Principal Stephen Wells and Senior Designer II Tara Headley were recently featured in Buildings Magazine alongside seven other industry experts, sharing their perspective on what it actually takes to reposition a building for long-term success.

According to Stephen and Tara, typical candidates for repositioning are buildings that depend on streamlined technology, from room scheduling systems to shared resource management. Furniture solutions that enhance comfort and flexibility, upgraded common areas and amenities, fitness facilities, and dining options all play a role in improving the overall user experience and making a building genuinely competitive in today's market.

Their insights are grounded in real project experience, including Hendrick's work on the Mag Mutual headquarters here in Atlanta. Worth a read for anyone thinking about how to make their building work harder for the people inside it.
