Shopping for speakers? Placement will do more for your sound than price.

Three rules we follow on every install:

• Center channel at ear level, as close to the screen as possible: dialogue should feel like it's coming from the actors, not the floor.
• Surrounds slightly behind and above the main seats, angled inward, not aimed straight at your ears.
• Subwoofer out of the corner and off the wall. Corners over-boost and muddy low frequencies.

Great speakers in the wrong spots underperform budget speakers in the right ones.

Where is your TV mounted right now: at seated eye level, or high above the fireplace?

When you’re seated, your eyes should generally land within the center third of the screen. For sofa seating, that often means positioning the TV around 40–44 inches from the floor to the center of the screen.

Mounting too high can lead to neck strain and may wash out contrast on LED/LCD panels, especially when viewing from below.
