Before you decide you’ve outgrown your home… take another look at how you’re using it. 👀

More square footage isn’t always the answer.

Sometimes it’s the oversized furniture. Sometimes everyday items are stored nowhere near where you actually use them. Sometimes you have plenty of storage, it’s just impossible to access. And sometimes? There’s simply too much stuff competing for the same amount of space.

As a professional organizer, I’m always looking beyond where can we put this? and asking how can this space work better for the people who actually live here?

Because a functional home isn’t necessarily a bigger home. It’s one where the space you have works for you.

Ah yes….the very specific sentimental/clutter things clients want permission to keep, I’m the organizer saying, “Nope, we don’t need to save that.”

1. Every single piece of your kids’ artwork. Keep the special ones. Photograph the rest. We do not need 47 finger paintings from kindergarten.

2. Empty boxes from expensive purchases. Unless you legitimately need it for a return, warranty, resale, or moving, your iPhone/Dyson/Louis Vuitton box does not need its own storage area. Keep a few for display and throw the rest away.

3. Your kids’ baby teeth. Maybe one if this is deeply sentimental to you. But an entire baggie of human teeth? I’m asking questions.

4. Clothes that don’t fit because they’re attached to a specific memory. The dress from your first date can have meaning without taking up prime closet real estate forever.

5. Clothes you’re saving for your kids “one day”. A few meaningful or heirloom-quality pieces? Absolutely. Twelve bins of their entire childhood wardrobe? No.

6. Every card you’ve ever received. Birthday cards, Christmas cards, graduation cards from 2009… you are allowed to appreciate the sentiment and let the card go.

One year of Sorted & Styled 🤍

A year ago, I officially launched this business with a vision to help people transform their homes but never did I expect the level of support I would receive from my friends, family, clients, and community. I don’t take a single bit of it for granted!

In just one year, Sorted & Styled has grown in ways I could have only hoped for. We’ve organized and transformed homes, helped families settle into new ones, expanded beyond home organization into functional space planning and design, traveled for projects, been featured on The Portia Show, shared our story with VoyageATL, appeared on the Smart Influencer Podcast, collaborated with brands, and continued building a business centered around organization that works for the way you truly live.

But some of the biggest moments aren’t the ones I can put on a list.

They’re the people who have spoken my name in rooms I wasn’t in. The friends who have shared my posts. The clients who have trusted me with their homes and then told someone else about us. The people who have tagged Sorted & Styled when someone asks for an organizer or designer. The referrals, comments, messages, encouragement, and every single person who has found a way to support this dream.

The prettiest organizing system in the world won’t work if it doesn’t work for YOU. 👏🏽

Trust. 👏🏽 The. 👏🏽 Process.

I tell my clients this ALL the time because the middle of an organizing project can look a whole lot like, “Wait…did we just make this worse?” 😂

But here’s the thing: you can’t create order without disrupting what wasn’t working first. Everything has to come out. Decisions have to be made. Categories have to be created. And yes…sometimes the room looks like absolute chaos before it starts coming back together.

But then comes the BEST part. ✨ The clutter is gone. Everything has a home. The space makes sense. And suddenly you can actually use it the way you were meant to. So if you’re currently standing in the “it looks worse” stage of your own project…keep going.
