I have this sign out in front of my shop, so someone came in today and asked, "What is an ethical gift?" 🤔 So I told him! An ethical gift is one where the products used to make the item are ethically sourced -- no rain forests destroyed! And where human dignity and the value of life is made a priority -- no child or slave labor! Where the organization who partners with the makers and artists gives back to the community -- families can buy better food, children can go to school, and the cycle of poverty can be broken. So, when you come into Vignettes and pick up a bar of soap made by women at Sacred Mark in Bangladesh, know that the woman who made that very bar of soap you hold in your hands was rescued from human trafficking. When you buy a pair of Tagua Nut earrings, you can feel good that even though they have the look and feel of elephant ivory, they are actually made from a sustainably sourced tree nut, and that no elephants were harmed. We live in a beautiful world! If we take care of it and of each other, perhaps we can make it even better.
