Intention Through Scent Part II: Wax
In an oversaturated market it’s important to stay educated and baby if there’s one thing I know a lil sum sum about… It’s wax!
Soy sounds natural and eco-friendly—
but what most people don’t realize is what it takes to turn soybeans into wax.
Soy wax starts as soybean oil…
which is extracted either by mechanical pressing or chemical solvents,
then goes through a process called hydrogenation to solidify it into wax.
And while it’s plant-based—
that doesn’t mean it’s untouched or unprocessed.
Now let’s talk about paraffin… 👀 It’s not the villain people think it is!
Paraffin comes from crude oil—
which, at a molecular level, is made up of hydrocarbons from decomposed plants and organisms over time.
Once refined, it becomes a usable wax.
Is it petroleum-based? Yes.
Is it the toxic villain people make it out to be? Not exactly.
When used intentionally and in small amounts,
it can actually:
✨ improve burn quality
✨ reduce tunneling
✨ enhance scent throw
Now… coconut wax 🌴
This is where things started to click for me.
Coconut wax is derived from coconut oil and also goes through hydrogenation—
but it’s known for:
✨ being renewable + biodegradable
✨ producing less soot
✨ burning slower than it’s competitors
✨ holding fragrance beautifully
✨ giving that smooth, creamy finish
So after all the research…
after testing different suppliers, blends, and formulas…
(after spending thousands of dollars, let’s be real 😅)
I made a decision. Not based on what sounds the cleanest…but what actually performs the best.
I chose a coconut-soy blend with a small amount of food-grade paraffin to create a candle that is:
✨ eco-conscious
✨ intentionally formulated
✨ and performs beautifully
Because intention isn’t about perfection it’s about informed choices.
