Looking back at the last stretch of doing this in public. AFRAM put us in Druid Hill Park, which is a strange and good feeling when you already make a candle named after it. The Charles Street Promenade closed the street and let Mount Vernon walk it. Hollins reminded us what a market looks like when the building has been standing since the 1830s and the neighbors still walk to it. The kiosk at Baltimore Peninsula showed us what a waterfront neighborhood feels like before the sidewalks fill in. Four very different rooms, same city, same reason we name the candles after it.

Last chance to smell it before you scroll past it.

Three days left at the yellow kiosk in Rye Street Park, Baltimore Peninsula. After Sunday, July 26, the kiosk packs up, but the candles don’t disappear: select pieces stay in person at Balston Mercantile, and the full line lives on Shopify and Etsy.

Come see what Baltimore actually smells like while the kiosk’s still parked on the waterfront.

No Peninsula candle yet. I could invent one anyway, most candle brands do exactly that, guess at an identity and slap a neighborhood name on the label. I’d rather wait until I actually have the memory to translate, not manufacture one because a Kiosk needs a fourth SKU.

Every candle is hand-poured soy in a reusable glass jar, made for a home that’s already considered, not one that needs convincing.

Find them in person this weekend at the Kiosk on Baltimore Peninsula, one of the newest stops on the Baltimore waterfront.

Most citrus candles fade in ten minutes. Yuzu doesn’t, and it won’t be around much longer either. Bergamot, grapefruit, and mandarin up front, sea salt and yuzu at the core, cedar and amber holding the base down so the throw actually lasts. This is a summer-only run. Once it sells out or the season ends, it’s gone for good, no restock.

I named this candle after the water because that’s where the city actually starts for me. Cotton blossom and lily up top, mimosa and cardamom underneath, tonka bean and sugar to close it out. That’s the harbor on a good day, working and warm at the same time.

This land used to be industrial waterfront nobody wanted. Now it’s Baltimore Peninsula, a distillery, a maker space, and for two weeks, Meet Haus. We’re set up through July 28 at 321 Cromwell St. If you’re in South Baltimore and want to smell what a Baltimore-made candle actually smells like, this is the window. W-Sun 11-6pm
