The Garden Rule I Wish I Would Have Learned Sooner
When I first started my garden, I treated every harvest like a finish line. Tomatoes ripened, I ate them. Beans filled out, I picked them. I was so focused on the "right now" that I never thought about next season. Then spring came and I was back at square one, buying seeds and starting over.
Here's what I wish someone had told me:
Eat 80% of what you grow. Save 20% for the seeds.
That 20% isn't a sacrifice. It's an investment. It's the part of the garden that keeps giving after the season ends. And honestly, it's a pretty good rule for life, too. Enjoy what you've worked for but always set a little aside for what's next. The best gardens, like the best seasons of life, are planted by someone who was thinking one harvest ahead.
So this season, let one pepper stay on the plant a little longer. Let a few bean pods dry on the vine. Future you will thank you.
