You have about three seconds to make someone stop walking and notice your window display.

So… which of these would actually make you curious enough to walk inside? Take a look at displays 1–3 and tell us which one would make you want to walk in. 👀

Note: Photographing window displays is hard! You'll need to look past the reflections!

More foot traffic won’t fix a store people don’t want to move through.

Good customer flow means that from the moment a customer walks in, they want to keep exploring, connecting, and engaging with your brand.

Here are three things retailers often get wrong when it comes to customer flow:
→ Mistake #1: More product = more sales. Too much product can create decision fatigue and make it harder for customers to focus.
→ Mistake #2: Brand story doesn’t matter in-store. When customers understand the “why” behind a brand, they have a deeper reason to connect with it.
→ Mistake #3: Seating is wasted space. Comfortable touchpoints give customers a reason to slow down, explore, and spend more time with your brand.

A successful retail launch doesn’t start on launch day. It starts months earlier, with a realistic timeline that accounts for design decisions, production, installation, marketing, and the customer journey.

We’re already seeing teams reserve time for Holiday, Winter, and Spring launches. The earlier we can get involved, the more intentionally all the pieces can work together.

📌 September kickoffs: Winter New Stores + Major Remodels
📌 September & November kickoffs: Holiday + Winter Store Refreshes
📌 November kickoffs: Spring Campaign Launches

If one of these is on your calendar, now is the time to start planning.

Successful retail space starts long before construction begins. Realistic renders let us test layouts, refine customer flow, evaluate sightlines, and align every detail with the brand experience before anything is built. This results in fewer surprises, smarter decisions, and a space that works as well in reality as it does on paper.

There's nothing quite like seeing a vision come to life.
Which render-to-reality is your favorite?

A beautiful store doesn’t automatically become a busy store. Customers make quick decisions about whether a space feels worth exploring. Your layout, lighting, displays, and even the first few feet inside the door all shape that decision. The goal is to make the customer experience feel effortless.

Your biggest retail competitor might not be the store down the street, but the comfort of the couch.

Online shopping has made buying incredibly convenient. If you want people to visit your physical store, you need to give them a reason to visit, beyond product.

→ Tell your brand story in a way they can experience
→ Host events that bring your community together
→ Offer customization, repairs, or other services
→ Let customers touch, test, and compare products in real life

The future of brick-and-mortar isn’t about competing with ecommerce on convenience, but offering something ecommerce can’t.

Ask yourself, "What’s the reason someone should choose to spend an hour in your store instead of 10 minutes on their couch?"

Every detail of a retail space has a job to do. In this case, the messaging on the window display is there, but even standing right in front of it, it’s nearly impossible to read. Small type, a busy material behind it, and a display meant to be viewed from a distance all work against the message.

And that’s an important part of retail design: something can look great up close and still fail in the environment where customers actually experience it.
Before putting text in a window, ask:
→ Can someone read it from the sidewalk?
→ Is there enough contrast?
→ Can they understand the message in a few seconds?
→ Does the design account for reflections, screens, textures, and other visual distractions?

Because your customer shouldn’t have to stop, squint, and pull out their phone to figure out what your window is trying to say.

HOKA’s new Abbot Kinney store is more than a place to shop for running shoes. This space was designed with the local running community in mind, including lockers specifically for members of their local run club. The best community-driven retail spaces give people a reason to come in even when they aren’t planning to buy something.

A place to meet up, get ready, and connect. And, of course, a place to shop when they are ready for a new pair of shoes. 😉

You don’t need a floor plan to start thinking about the customer experience. In fact, some of the most important retail decisions happen before there’s anything to put on a floor plan, including:
- How should the space feel?
- What should customers notice first?
- How do you want people to move through it?
-What should make the experience memorable?

If a new store is somewhere on your 2027 horizon, we’d love to hear what you’re thinking about. Even if it’s still very much in the *“we have an idea…”* stage.

And for those already planning ahead, we’re currently booking:
📌 September kickoffs for Winter Stores & Remodels
📌 November & December kickoffs for Spring Stores & Remodels

Sometimes the best time to start the conversation is before you have all the answers.
