Today I visited Made Market NWA and updated my display with some new items. I think the sunflower pieces are probably my favorite, but there are some other pieces put in with the other colors!

If you go to check them out it made market. Don't forget to turn them over a lot of minute pieces have fancy feet!

It's sunflower season. A few weeks ago I made a video showing how I attached and finished the underside of these sunflower dishes. You can find the link to that video below.

I received questions on how I would finish it with glaze. And so I wanted to show those final results. Overall I'm very happy.

I just want to talk to all the people who have followed me this year. I am amazed and honored that you've chosen to follow my page. As someone who has done art in some form for the last twenty plus years, with pottery being only part of that medium for almost four... I really appreciate you.

My goal is to start teaching basic classes in pottery. One of my very favorite things is to teach people. Does that mean that I know all the answers? Absolutely not. But I am definitely one who will search and search until I do find it for you, because that's how I'm wired. Part of the fun of pottery is just simply experimentation, and i've done a lot of that I have a lot of donated very ugly pots to prove my point. Yes, I feel that I've had many successes. And yes, I feel like I've had many that didn't live up to my standards. Pottery teaches us that there's perfection in everything even if it doesn't look like perfection to us in the moment. One of the very best teachings that I learned from another person who made pottery was, that you never marry a piece until it's completely done. Because anything can happen along the way.

I invite anyone who's interested in pottery to experiment. And to enjoy creating with their hands. If you live in Northwest Arkansas and you're interested in delving into the world of pottery, I will be teaching workshops at the Made Market in Northwest Arkansas, very soon.

I pulled both of these pieces out of the kiln today and was amazed at the difference. The one that is more matte with an oatmeal topping the marigold color was on the very top shelf of my kiln.

The other one was on the hottest shelf, which was around the middle part, near the thermocouple. I have often wondered about this. And so I purposely used the same clay, which is laguna, B mix5 and applied the same exact way with the same two glazes. Since I have a pretty small kiln that only allows for 1 of these type of pieces per shelf... I thought it would be an interesting experiment.

In this case, I did a fifty fifty mix of a
Amaco mixing Clear with Marigold. I then topped it with two coats of Oatmeal by Amaco.

I cannot decide which one I like best. I think they both have really pretty attributes. What do you guys think?

Good morning, everyone I have something slightly different for you today in that I feel that pottery is very healing for me and I put a lot of my energy into it. I also feel that having external resources for going within is super helpful. And healing...and fun...and inspiring!

My friend Melissa Crane has a snail mail club that she just launched this year. Melissa is a wonderful, whimsical artist who really captures the essence of the focus for the month. She's very open, and the items that she provides in her snail mail can be used over and over again in many different ways and in this video I am opening my snail mail for this month featuring the bee and the bee's wisdom. I have been asked before if I glaze the underside of my flower frogs and I do not.

What I do now is I use a liquid sealer called Liquid Quartz. It is to be used on bisque fired items that are unglazed, and it will create a nice seal on there that will allow for the water to just bead off of them.

This keeps them from becoming stained and covered in organic matter when used frequently.

Generally speaking, you will not have a lot of problems with this, but it's a nice extra measure for those who are concerned.
