⭐️ Garden Redesign Story: Part Seven ⭐️

Now we just have to get the last of the trellises installed. We decided to have a little fun with these trellises and went for a mountain feel for the 4’x10’x2’ boxes. Not quite sure that we accomplished a true mountain look but we still love the outcome!

Happy Mother’s Day to all! 💐 And to our very own Theresa. She works hard building in the shop and on the business behind the scenes. And most importantly, she is a loving mother and grandmother who loves sharing her passion for gardening and woodworking with her family and friends 💕

⭐️ Garden Redesign Story: Part Six ⭐️

Now for the 4’x8’x2’ boxes. We are trellising these boxes using hog fencing. Trellising provides so many benefits:
- Increases the usable space in the garden.
- Gives the viney plants a lot of space to expand
- Provides shade underneath the trellis for plants who enjoy a bit less sun than others
- Aestically pleasing

⭐️ Garden Redesign Story: Part Five ⭐️

Taking out these boxes was harder than expected 😅 Much of the existing soil we inherited was dry, hard, and felt like concrete. Much of the garden hadn’t been used or managed for quite awhile.

We decided to run our irrigation outside of our boxes. The main irrigation lines were run previously, so we incorporated the existing lines into our water plan.

⭐️ Garden Redesign Story: Part Four ⭐️

This is what our Silver Saw 4’x10’x2’ boxes look like. We use extra side and cross supports and extra middle legs for increased strength and stability. These were finished with raw linseed oil (see more on this below) and we added 2 of these to the garden design.

We applied a coat of raw linseed oil to our boxes because cedar will change and grey over time. Raw linseed oil helps to reduce this greying and protect the wood. And look at that rich color it gives the cedar!

⭐️ Garden Redesign Story: Part Three ⭐️

We were very fortunate we had a space that had already been leveled and prepared for a garden. So, we were able to move past these crucial first steps in a garden install. Our first step was to remove the existing boxes.

🧄 I used these existing boxes over the previous winter to grow a winter garden and to grow garlic. The winter garden was ready to come out but the garlic wasn’t! So, we worked around the garlic box as we cleared space to install a few boxes at a time.

The 4’x10’x2’ boxes look went in first since we were able to install them without moving those existing boxes. And by installing these boxes we were able to transplant the garlic (more later on the partial success of this move).
