I decided to enter a speaker design competition this year. It is an annual event in Ohio and will be this weekend. I figured this will give me a chance to learn more about speaker building and see how much I still don't know. It has been a fun three months putting these together and I am glad I actually finished them...two days before I leave.

There will be a judge panel who will look at the speakers as well as listen to them. I entered in the small under $300 category.

The speakers are made from Bubinga Veneer, and the front and frames are made from Shedua (Hardwood). This is the last of that wood and it came from World Timber Corp.

Been working on speakers and learning electronics lately. A good friend of mine reached out to purchase a set. And I am building a set to take to a speaker building competition in late July. I also have been learning about Class A/B Amplifiers. That started with buying a cheap Class A/B amp online and that led me down many rabbit holes. Now I am having blank PCB boards made and populating them myself. Goal is to build matching speaker cabinets with amplifier boxes. The pics here is just what I have been working on lately. Unfortunately, I am still not completely done with any of these.

Finished another speaker set, these are Bluetooth and wireless stereo. Only cords needed are two USB cables for power. Each speaker box has its own Bluetooth amplifier, and they are wirelessly connected together for a left and right speaker.

My goal was to make the speaker cabinet look like an old TV...with eyes. My other goal was to tune the box down to 60Hz. The box is tuned appropriately, hopefully my box design came into fruition.

The cabinet is made from plywood with book matched cherry veneer. The front baffle and trim pieces are made from Tzalam. All hardwood came from World Timber Corp.

I am working on a couple of speaker projects and have one complete. This is a set of bookshelf speakers with built in Bluetooth amps. Both speakers work in a stereo set and are wireless, other than a power cord. With this project I had the chance to use speaker design programs to create the cabinet size. I used a speaker analyzer yesterday and I met my desired goals.

Cabinets are made from 3/4 MDF and veneered with Sapele. The front of the speakers are made from hardwood. Since I had some Ambrosia Maple left, I decided to use that. This is the last of the maple that I got from World Timber Corp

Been a busy last couple of months. My sister came in for a visit and we made a lamp together. We had a great time, and she did an awesome job. I had enough wood cut to make two and I finished the other one recently. The lamp is made from Tzalam and Red Gum Veneer.

And my son came in for a visit, and he wanted to make a small bookshelf. Had to make it fit in a suitcase, two distinct shelf heights, be easy to reassemble, and fit in a small Japanese apartment. We made the bookshelf from Sapele and Ambrosia Maple.

The wood from the above two projects came from World Timber Corp.

The other pics and some of my projects and projects from friends at church.

Still working in between helping others and family visits. I ordered a "small" handful of items to make bookshelf speakers. My goal is to make some of these portable, Bluetooth, and with built in amplifiers. Got one set done and working on a couple more. This first one here I assembled and finished the box with bookmatched rift sawn European veneer. And they sound awesome!
