Hi, my name is Sophia Dixon Dillo and I am an artist. I recently made a series of drawings using pearlescent ink on black paper, and I thought they would translate nicely into textiles. This got my mind turning: how can I put my patterns onto fabric? I have always been interested in translating my aesthetic into things that are useful and/or wearable. I started making block prints on linen and remnant canvas from my studio. I've been having so much fun! So far I have created bags and pillows, but I have so many more ideas I want to explore! Stay tuned for some other ideas I have: aprons, purses, wall hangings, and maybe eventually lamps and/or lanterns and refurbished furniture with my hand-printed fabrics.
I also love all things shiny, so metal seemed to be a logical next step in my explorations. I've been making hand-cut and finished sterling silver, copper and brass jewelry. These pieces tie back to my artwork, emphasizing the natural undulations that come out of shapes that are drawn by hand.
Often when I go shopping, I have trouble finding things I really love, never quite what I am looking for... So I have put forth the challenge to myself to start making things I want use and wear in my own daily life. My hope is that others will enjoy these explorations as much as I do!
