Last summer I had fresh baked goods available most days of the week. This year, I’m trying to find a better balance between growing the business and spending time with family.

Right now, most fresh baking happens on weekends, but I’m curious…

Help me wish the guy behind the scenes a very Happy Birthday! 🎉

If you’ve followed along for a while, you’ve probably heard me mention Alex here and there. While I’m usually the one posting, he’s the one helping make so much of this possible.

Now, let’s be honest—he’s not always excited about my ideas, and he definitely doesn’t always want to jump into the next adventure I come up with. 😂 But with a little persuading, he always helps me make those dreams happen.

Whether it’s building something, fixing something, helping with the stand, keeping up with the vehicles, tackling projects around the property, or ending up with a giant garden that definitely wasn’t his idea, he’s always there making sure things get done.

He keeps our family running, supports all of my crazy plans, and helps turn ideas into reality, even when he’d probably rather be doing something else.

Riverside Whisk & Gifts wouldn’t be what it is without him, and our family certainly wouldn’t either.

This weekend we had something that doesn’t happen very often anymore — a whole weekend together as a family.

Last year at this time, I was actively building this business from the ground up. While I’m incredibly grateful for how far it’s come, I also missed out on a lot of family time and some of the little things I normally would have done with the kids.

This year, I’ll continue growing the business, but I’m also making it a priority to enjoy the sunshine, spend time with my family, and appreciate these moments while they’re here.

Not every moment is perfect. There’s arguing, frustration, and the usual chaos that comes with family life. But there are also smiles, memories, and moments you’ll never get back.

This weekend we went fishing, Kolby and Alex built a bench together, we got the garden planted, checked on the bees, enjoyed dinner out, and spent time simply being together. I’m especially excited to see how the garden arch looks once everything starts growing.

The business will always have more to do tomorrow. The kids won’t always be this age. ❤️

Dad and I opened the hives today to check that each hive has a queen. I attempted to get a photo of one, but by the time my leather glove let me work the camera, she had disappeared into the cluster of bees.

This was my first time really seeing the colony at work. When I’ve fed sugar water before, I’ve only opened the feeder at the top of the hive and seen a relatively small number of bees. Seeing the frames covered with bees was a completely different experience.

It was amazing to see how much they’ve already accomplished. The frames are filling with pollen, nectar is being stored in the comb, and you can already see how much progress they’ve made in such a short amount of time. It’s incredible what thousands of tiny bees can accomplish together.

We’re still learning, but getting a closer look inside the hives today was such an amazing experience. 🐝🍯❤️

I know some of you have been interested in following along with our bee adventure, so I thought I’d share a little bit of what we saw today.

And if you turn your volume up on the video, you can hear them buzzing. They weren’t exactly thrilled that we were poking around in their hive! 😂🐝

New flavor today, garlic and herb!

How would I eat this loaf? Cut it horizontally, make a garlic butter- butter, garlic, parsley, oregano and basil. Smother the cut sides, bake for 20ish minutes at 350, add cheese (optional) serve with your favorite pasta 🤤
