I am often asked how I ended up here, and to be honest, I’m not exactly sure. After 2 decades of working in the finance and insurance industries and a few years of emotional struggles, I felt like I needed to make some drastic changes in my life. I followed my gut, sold almost everything I owned, and moved back to my hometown. While renovating, I decided to attempt refinishing a dining room table
my grandfather built about 70 years ago. Next, I decided to refinish a coffee table to match the new aesthetic of my home. Although I was proud of how the tables turned out, I still didn’t anticipate any of this in my future. One day, I saw a candle block online and decided I could probably make one for myself. I pulled out my Dad’s old Black & Decker drill and began researching the bits I needed to drill the candle holes. Seemingly overnight, my interest in woodworking continued to grow. I spent night after night studying videos and teaching myself how to build any and everything I wanted in my own home. I had no idea how a miter saw, jigsaw, circular saw, or table saw is used. Drill bits? Sandpaper grit? No idea. It’s was ALL very new to me, but very fascinating. I can’t say I have ever had a hobby in my adult life. Until the pandemic, my life had been mostly consumed with motherhood and working, but then along came woodworking. I found myself getting up early in the morning and staying outside until late at night in the heat and freezing cold temperatures working. I couldn’t get enough! I didn’t know how to put it into words at the time, but being able to glue, nail, or screw different wood pieces together feels overwhelmingly therapeutic for me. There are so many struggles and circumstances in life we can’t control, change, and must live with, but THIS was something I could fix. I can take different pieces, put them together, and create something beautiful. Last fall, I started the She Said She Wood social media pages, Etsy page, and website. Less than 1 year later, I’m proud to say She Said She Wood has sold pieces literally all the way from California to South Carolina, and we are continuing to grow every single day! Little ol’ me created something out of thin air, and it has now spread to homes from coast to coast. So thank you! Thank you for supporting me on this journey, and thank you for seeing the value in these pieces I have poured my heart into creating for you! Mostly, I thank the Lord above for redirecting my path and placing me where he needs me to be. Now, I wake up each day happily looking forward to working with you to create the perfect pieces for your home or the perfect gifts for your loved ones.
