Keeping up with everything happening is overwhelming and devastating. And that's by design. When I feel the most staggered and afraid, I try to remind myself that collectively, we are doing out best and fighting back the best ways we can with the resources we have. We are all we have. So we gotta take care of each other.

I used to consume books. A weekly trip to the library saw me with a big old stack of novels filling up my arms. Life gets busy, though, and making time to read gets harder and harder. That's what struck me when I thought about this quote by Harper Lee. Reading is a practice, is something beautiful for me, is something I don't just want but need to give time to in my daily life. I hope we are all giving more time to the things that are as important to our souls as breathing.

Try to keep in mind that, although the constant outpouring of aggression and human rights violations can make the assault of fascism feel inevitable, that is n o t the case. My partner reminded me that the goal is to flood our info feeds and our brains with terrible stuff all of the time. Why? Because overwhelmed and scared people are easier to control. Here is the thing, though. We have power and strength when we are together. And that is what they are afraid of.
If our voices had no power, they wouldn't try so hard to silence us.
