⚠️⚠️ THURSDAY TIP — BIG RESIN SAFETY WARNING! ⚠️⚠️
🚨 PLEASE DO NOT PUT UNCURED OR IMPROPERLY CURED RESIN IN A ZIPLOC BAG AND PLACE IT IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD REFRIGERATOR OR FREEZER! 🚨
I have seen this suggested as a solution for resin that will not cure, and I want to make something VERY clear:
❌ A ZIPLOC BAG DOES NOT MAKE UNCURED RESIN SAFE.
❌ FREEZING DOES NOT MAKE UNCURED RESIN HARMLESS.
❌ YOUR FOOD FREEZER IS NOT A SAFE STORAGE OR DISPOSAL PLACE FOR UNCURED RESIN.
🧪 HERE’S THE IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION:
Uncured epoxy resin and hardener are still reactive chemical materials. Lower temperatures can slow the curing reaction, but that does NOT mean the chemicals have suddenly become safe.
Putting uncured resin into a household refrigerator or freezer can introduce the risk of chemical contamination through leaks, spills, residue, or vapors in an area specifically intended for FOOD.
Your refrigerator, freezer, kitchen counters, utensils, and other food-contact areas should be kept completely separate from uncured resin and resin supplies.
🗑️ SO WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WITH RESIN THAT WON’T CURE?
⚠️ Keep it OUT of your refrigerator and freezer.
⚠️ Keep it away from food, children, and pets.
⚠️ Wear appropriate protective gloves when handling uncured resin.
⚠️ DO NOT pour uncured resin or hardener down your sink, toilet, or drain.
⚠️ Check the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and disposal instructions for the exact resin you are using.
⚠️ Follow your local household hazardous-waste requirements when uncured material needs to be discarded.
📢 PLEASE HELP ME SPREAD THIS ONE!
If you see someone recommending that uncured resin be placed in a Ziploc bag and stored in a household refrigerator or freezer, please do not follow that advice.
And if you know another resin artist—especially someone who is just starting out—SHARE THIS THURSDAY TIP WITH THEM. 💙
A failed resin pour is frustrating, but it is NEVER worth taking unnecessary chances around the food you and your family eat.
✨ THURSDAY TIP TAKEAWAY:
UNCURED RESIN + FOOD FREEZER = NO! 🚫❄️
When it comes to resin safety, we need to teach one another the RIGHT way to handle mistakes—not pass along shortcuts that could create another problem.
Stay creative. Stay informed. And most importantly, stay safe. 💙
