In California, fire resilience is part of designing responsibly.

For this home, the client wanted protection beyond what code required. That meant building added resilience into the parts of the house most people will never see; from fire-rated sheathing to fire-resistive attic vents and exterior systems.

Those details fundamentally change how confidently the homeowner can live in it.

On this project, an issue with the original site layout was identified at the footing stage, early enough to correct it before walls went up and the cost of fixing it multiplied.

The most memorable homes are built in the details. For these clients, Cape Cod was the reference point, but the goal was never to recreate it literally.

Instead, the design translated what they loved about it into something more personal and current: traditional bones, cleaner lines, black steel, and materials chosen for the way they change with light and use.

Every detail was intentional, from the limestone that almost reads like shells to the abalone wallcovering and mixed-finish glass tile.

The value isn’t  in choosing beautiful finishes independently. It is in making sure every choice contributes to one cohesive point of view.
