Antique Signed Stone Bust (19th C.)
This lovely lady holds a lot of provenance! First & most importantly, she is signed: G. Pochini (Galileo Pochini: Italian sculptor well known for his distinguished work in finely carved alabaster & marble, 1800-1899). Furthermore, the bust has stickers on the bottom of the base that tell her story of being lovingly gifted by family members, as well as one of her previous purchase prices (see images).
She is likely alabaster, but possibly marble. She features exquisite hand-carved details in her dress, hat, & hair. Her serene face (with nose intact!) is accompanied by wonderful movement & texture through the curls in her hair & the ruffles in both her dress & hat. Between her beauty & size, she makes quite the statement piece. And her condition is great for her age & material! Minor wear/staining with one main disclosure: the base broke & was repaired - break line is visible, but the base is sturdy (see images).
