I knew I wanted to do a Formula One themed bar and lounge for the 2026 . But I didn’t want to create a man cave. Instead, I wanted to create an open and gracious space that felt cohesive to the woman of the house, while also being totally cool for the man.

I had the opportunity to work with art photographer , who specializes in private car collections, especially related to Formula 1. It was a whole new world for me, especially since I’m known for historic Charleston and waterfront properties! As I delved into his amazing portfolio of work, I thought what a great challenge for me: to combine the beauty of nature and softness with the world of motor sports.

When a high-profile couple and repeat client asked me to design their new Lowcountry home—set alongside the deep waters of the scenic Wando River—I immediately began shaping the interiors around their personal style.

The client’s family builds stunning, hand-carved Pulsifer Hampton boats that resemble pieces of art, so this home was perfect for them to enjoy an active lifestyle on the water.

The whole point of what I do is to make their home their literal identity, not just comfortable and pretty. I never want someone to look at my design and say, “That’s Alex’s project.” I want them to say that it embodies that particular client.

This project started with a lot of littles. The client asked me to just refresh some things that were looking a little tired.

For example, in the living room, I added blue grasscloth to the bookshelves. I added some lighting, as well, and refreshed the sofa cushions and the accessories — just giving it a little bit of polish and making the space less predictable.

That continued with doing minor refreshes throughout the house, the client trusted me to create a beautiful, inviting guest suite from the ground up.

This 200-year-old South of Broad historic restoration is a fan favorite. Like any project I take on, the goal was to ensure my client would reap the reward of investing into this home — each inch of this 1820s property had to be livable and enjoyable in the 21st century.

Every client I work with brings something new to me, and it’s such a wonderful adventure. I get to discover who these people are, and I have the honor of showing that through their homes. Our business thrives on people being happy. And we have incredibly happy clients because they trust us to speak for them and create things they can’t begin to imagine. It’s a daunting task but one I relish. I’m so grateful.

Everyone always asks about the dining room of this house. You’ll be surprised to know that the story starts in the kitchen. When the clients brought me in, their main concern was a possible kitchen remodel. The rest is history!

Weaving my clients’ life stories into the details of their home is what I do. This is what makes my designs special, and it’s what I’m truly passionate about. Enjoy this walkthrough of how my team and I turned this house into a home.

After spotting my work on a magazine cover, homeowner Liz resonated with my use of color, shape, and texture (an Alexandre Fleuren Interiors specialty!). Although her style was very different than the magazine story, she tasked me with designing a major renovation for her historic property anyway. Our team handled and managed every detail of this project, ensuring Liz was happy every step of the way. The result is this beautiful South of Broad renovation that celebrates the city’s charming neighborhood, while keeping her happy, vivacious personality front and center.

The bar, w**e room, lounge, and lower terrace I designed for the Southeastern Designer Showhouse draw inspiration from the world of Formula 1. Layered with custom details, every element was designed to cross the finish line in style by blending speed and softness throughout each space. Stop by, soak it all in, and enjoy the experience.
